Rheumatology Made Simple

(Part 1)

We will start with a new topic today. We will call it
“Rheumatology Made Simple”.
First, we will discuss the Rheumatic Diseases
Commonly Seen In Primary Care Practice. What are
these diseases?
These are: Soft Tissue Rheumatism, Osteoarthritis,
Rheumatoid Arthritis, Gout, Systemic Lupus,
Erythematosus, Septic Arthritis, Juvenile Rheumatoid
Arthritis, Ankylosing Spondylosis, Psoriatic Arthritis,
Scleroderma, and Henoch-Schonlein Purpura
The next question is: What are the Rheumatic Disease
Categories? These are: Ambulatory Rheumatology,
Arthritis-rash Syndromes, Chronic Rheumatic Diseases,
and Serious Rheumatic Diseases
What does Ambulatory Rheumatology include? It
includes the following: Soft Tissue Rheumatism,
Tendonitis, Bursitis, and Muscular Strain.
What are the Causes of Soft Tissue? The causes are:
Stenosing Tenosynovitis, De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis,

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, and Lateral Epicondylitis or
“Tennis Elbow”.
There is also what we call as the Shoulder Pain
Syndrome. This includes the: Impingement Syndrome
(Rotator Cuff Tendonitis), Subacromial Tendonitis, Bicipital
Tendonitis, and the Myofascial Pain.
Next is what we call as the Hip Pain Syndrome which
includes: Trochanteric Bursitis, Pain in the greater
trochanter region, Local tenderness over lateral hip area
and the Calcification of bursa which may occur.
There is also the Knee Pain Syndrome. This includes:
Ankle & Foot Pain Syndromes, Achilles Tendonitis,
Calcaneal Bursitis, and Plantar Fascitis. (To be continued)
