Veteran public servant Nicanor “Nick” Besas, a city councilor of Tagbilaran, has been sworn in as the new president of the Philippine Councilors League (PCL) – Bohol Chapter.

He took his oath of office before Governor Aris Aumentado on January 31, 2024 at the governor’s office in the new provincial capitol.

He assumed his new role on February 1, 2024, succeeding Gloria Gementiza, ex-PCL-Bohol president and municipal councilor of San Isidro, who resigned from her post after honoring their term-sharing agreement.

Besas, who was the executive vice-president of PCL-Bohol Chapter, will serve the remaining half of the term until 2025.

Besas was accompanied by his wife Pamela, son Gian, niece Twinkle Lim, and daughter-in-law Glai Besas during his oath-taking ceremony.

Besas, a former three-term barangay captain of Cogon, the largest barangay in Tagbilaran, is now on his first term as a city councilor.

He is also the father of Kristine Alexie Besas Tutor, the House of Congress representative for the Third District of Bohol.

As the PCL Bohol president, Besas will sit as an ex-officio member of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Bohol, representing the 482 councilors in the province.

Tagbilaran City Mayor Jane Yap and her husband Baba Yap, the first gentleman, congratulated Besas on his new mandate.

They expressed their pride that a Tagbilaranon is leading the PCL Bohol Chapter and joining the provincial board.

Atty. Adam Relson Jala, vice-mayor of Tagbilaran, and the members of the 15th Sangguniang Panlungsod also extended their congratulations to Besas, their fellow legislator, on their regular session on February 2, 2024.

Besas pledged his commitment to the development of the PCL Bohol Chapter and its members.
