The City Government of Tagbilaran, in a step towards enhancing educational infrastructure, inked a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Department of Education (DepEd), SM Foundation Inc. (SMFI), and SM Primeholdings Inc. (SMPHI) on March 22, 2024, at the City Mayor’s Office.

The MOA pertains to the construction of a two-story, four-classroom building at Booy South Elementary School in Barangay Booy, Tagbilaran City.

“The partnership between the City Government of Tagbilaran, DepEd, SM Foundation and SM Primeholdings reflects our shared commitment to provide quality education and modern facilities for our students.  Through collaborative efforts like this, we aim to create an environment conducive to learning and empower our youth to reach their full potential,” said Mayor Jane Yap.

This cooperation aims to establish a fully furnished educational facility equipped with modern amenities conducive to learning.

The building will feature flush toilets with handwashing basins, 200 school armchairs (including left-handed chairs), teacher’s tables and chairs, panoramic concave whiteboards, wall clocks, wall fans, and other essential facilities.

Notably, the project will also incorporate provisions for Persons with Disabilities (PWD), including a PWD ramp and PWD flush toilet with handwash basin and handrails, as well as staircase enhancements with emergency lights, fire alarm bells, and handwashing facilities.

Mayor Yap, alongside DepEd City Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Wilfreda Bongalos, SMFI Executive Director for Education Ms. Carmen Linda Atayde and SMFI School Building Program Head Ms. Juris Umali Soliman, lent their signatures to the agreement, marking the formal commencement of the project.

The signing ceremony was attended by key stakeholders, including Vice Mayor Adam Jala, Board Member Nick Besas, Ms. Clementina Gamil, Elementary School Principal II of Booy South Elementary School; and Dr. Liza Maquilang, DepEd City Division Partnership Focal Person.

A groundbreaking ceremony, symbolizing the commencement of construction, also took place immediately after the signing of the MOA.

This collaborative effort underscores the commitment of all parties involved to provide quality educational facilities for the benefit of Tagbilaranon students.
