Cong. Edgar Chatto
Quality education remains a top priority in pursuing the province’s growth and development.
This was the core message Cong. Edgar Chatto imparted to this year’s graduates across academic institutions in the first district.
Chatto handed over medals and certificates of Excellence in Academics and Leadership for outstanding graduates from elementary to college on both private and public schools.
In a message for the graduates, the first district solon extended his congratulations and underscored the importance of quality education as they press forward in their respective journeys.
“I have always believed that the beautiful thing about learning is that not only can it not be taken away from you, it also does not stop,” he said, encouraging graduates to become the best versions of themselves as their significant contribution to the progress of the community.
Education has been central to Chatto’s leadership throughout his public service career.
As vice governor, he established the Carlos P. Garcia Scholarship Program under Provincial Ordinance No. 8, series of 1996. He also strongly supported the Bohol Provincial Library and its priorities.
As governor, he expanded the Bohol Educational Subsidy Program to benefit more underprivileged students and enable them to complete their college education. He also partnered with public and private groups on school building programs.
It was also during his term as governor when he initiated the Turo-Turismo, Eskwela Agrikultura and Information Technology learning to align human resource with growth directions of the province.
In Congress, he authored Republic Act 9547 or the Expanded Special Program for the Employment of Students (E-SPES) or the Summer Job Law.
Chatto also set up the Bohol Island State University through Republic Act 9722 and worked with university officials to expand its curriculum to now include a School of Medicine in consultation with other universities in the province.
College scholarships as well as technical education and skills development programs are also implemented with partner national agencies through his congressional office.
