Atoy Torralba prepares for mayoral bid, reports say

Tagbilaran City Councilor Melvin “Atoy” Torralba, rumored to be a challenger to incumbent Mayor Jane Cajes-Yap, has broken his silence regarding his potential bid for city mayor.

Torralba informed reporters on June 26, 2024, that he is actively preparing for an announcement next week.

Despite the drumbeating by his supposed opponents, including an impressive show of force, Torralba has remained eerily silent.

If he finally confirms his candidacy, the political landscape in Tagbilaran will become clearer.

Mayor Yap, on the other hand, has been consolidating her forces, having secured the support of 14 out of the 15 barangay captains in the city.

Her openness to welcoming former political rivals demonstrates her commitment to unity for the sake of Tagbilaranons, observers said.

GLOVASA LEAVES

City Councilor Ody Glovasa’s decision to leave the Asenso Pa More Team and join City Councilor Atoy Torralba’s camp stems from family matters.

In an emotional interview with the media, Glovasa revealed that family love and loyalty guided his choice.

Former Mayor Baba Yap, president of the Asenso Pa More Team, confirmed Glovasa’s departure during a recent interview.

The move comes after discussions between Glovasa and Mayor Jane Yap about his political situation, which was complicated by family dynamics.

Glovasa’s departure leaves a gap in the Asenso Pa More slate, prompting efforts to find a replacement.

However, Former Mayor Baba Yap has not disclosed any specific names they are considering for Glovasa’s position.

The Chatto family, including Glovasa and potential mayoral candidate Atoy Torralba, faces a delicate political landscape in Tagbilaran’s 1st District.

Glovasa expressed gratitude to Mayor Jane Yap and Former Mayor Baba for considering him as part of the Asenso Pa More Team when he first joined the city council.

Despite the challenges, Glovasa said he remains appreciative of Mayor Yap’s support and understanding as he embarks on his new political journey.
