Cong. Edgar Chatto lauded the appointment of Senator Sonny Angara as Education Secretary.
On Friday’s Kita Ug Atong Kongresista, Chatto reported that he immediately reached out to Angara when news came out that the latter was named secretary of the Department of Education (DepEd).
The first district solon congratulated Angara through a text message on the well deserved appointment, to which Angara sought support with a reply.
Chatto expressed excitement to once again work with Angara who was once his Senior Vice Chair in the Committee on Tourism.
Angara was co-author of the Tourism Act of 2009 or Republic Act 9593 which Chatto principally authored.
He also worked with Chatto in passing at the Senate Republic Act 11883 or the Governor Celestino Gallares Multi Specialty Medical Complex Law which Chatto also principally authored in the House of Representatives.
Chatto underscored the mandate of the DepEd in holistic youth development programs and acknowledged the crucial role of the secretary in leading the response to challenges in the sector with the end in view for the country to be at par with global standards.
The constitution provides that the highest allocation of the budget will always be for education, he stated, citing the upcoming budget process as Congress resumes on July 22.
He said the Department of Budget and Management will endorse the budget for deliberation before it is signed by the president for operationalization in 2025.
