Tagbilaran City celebrates National Disaster Resilience Month

In commemoration of the National Disaster Resilience Month (NDRM), Tagbilaran City kicked off its celebration with a ceremony on July 2, 2024, followed by a motorcade highlighting the importance of disaster preparedness. 

The event was organized by the City Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO), led by Mr. Gerard Lavadia.

The NDRM kick-off ceremony gathered officials and participants at the City Hall, emphasizing the city’s commitment to enhancing resilience against natural disasters. 

Alongside the ceremony, a Disaster Resilience exhibit was held at the City Hall Atrium from July 2 to 5, 2024, showcasing various initiatives and strategies for disaster preparedness.

Mayor Jane Yap expressed her full support for the activities, underscoring the critical role of Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) in safeguarding the community. 

She emphasized, “Events like the National Disaster Resilience Month celebration are crucial for raising awareness and preparedness levels among our citizens.Tagbilaran City remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring the safety and resilience of our community.”

The celebration will continue with the City Hall Interdepartmental Poster Making Contest scheduled on July 26, 2024, followed by the NDRM Closing Activity and Awarding of the Best Barangay in Disaster Preparedness on July 31, 2024. 

It’s noteworthy that Tagbilaran City was honored with the prestigious Gawad Kalasag Seal of Excellence- Beyond Compliant Local Government Unit Award on December 11, 2023, at the Manila Hotel, recognizing its outstanding efforts in disaster risk reduction and management.

City department heads attend Capacity Development seminar

Department heads, heads of offices, and assistant department heads of the City Government of Tagbilaran convened on July 5, 2024, at Jj’s Seafood Village, Tagbilaran City, for a capacity development activity.

The seminar was organized following a productive departmental meeting that reviewed the accomplishments of the first quarter and outlined the programs and activities for the second semester across all departments.

Dr. Rosalinda Paredes, City Governance Coordinator of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) through its Cities for Enhanced Governance and Engagement (CHANGE) Project, opened the activity with a morning session on data monitoring and evaluation.

Dr. Paredes emphasized the importance of accurate data collection and analysis in formulating effective policies and programs. Her insights laid a strong foundation for the day’s discussions, setting the stage for a more comprehensive understanding of personal and professional development. 

After lunch, Dr. Joan Llanos, an expert in personal development, delivered an insightful session on coping with stress and improved mental health. Among the topics discussed were self-development strategies, exploring different aspects of personal growth, effective stress management techniques, and promoting mental health in the workplace. 

City Mayor Jane Yap expressed her support for such developmental initiatives, recognizing the vital role of continuous learning and personal growth in effective governance. 

“Investing in our leaders’ personal and professional development is the key to providing excellent service to our community. This seminar is a testament to our commitment to continuous improvement,” Mayor Yap stated.

The seminar concluded with renewed enthusiasm among the participants, who appreciated the opportunity to enhance their skills and knowledge. The City Government of Tagbilaran remains committed to nurturing its leaders, fostering a culture of excellence, and ensuring continuous improvement in public service delivery.
