The Gov. CelestinoGallares Memorial Multi-Specialty Medical Center, also known as Gallares-Cortes, is expected to open its doors by June 2025, carving a life-changing milestone in the healthcare infrastructure of Bohol province.

The hospital, which is a legacy project of former Governor Edgar Chatto, is built to alleviate the congestion at the existing Gov. CelestinoGallares Memorial Medical Center (GCGMMC) in Tagbilaran, the provincial capital.

GCGMMC has long been struggling to accommodate the influx of patients from all over Bohol, baring the need for additional medical facilities in the region.

According to Dr.MiguelitoJayoma, chief of the GCGMMC, the opening of Gallares-Cortes will not only help decongest the existing hospital but also provide Bohol with its third nationally funded hospital, alongside the Don Emilio del Valle Memorial Medical Center in Ubay.

Jayoma noted that having three such hospitals is a fortunate circumstance for the province.

The Gallares-Cortes project, made possible through legislation sponsored by Chatto, is nearing completion, with around 90% of the work already done.

Health officials are scheduled to conduct an inspection before the end of the year, paving the way for the hospital’s anticipated opening in June 2025.

Once operational, Gallares-Cortes will operate as a separate entity from the GCGMMC, further expanding the healthcare options available to the people of Bohol.

The development of Gallares-Cortes is expected to boost the province’s healthcare system, which has been struggling to cope with the growing demand for medical services.

The new hospital is also expected to improve access to quality healthcare for the people of Bohol, particularly those in need of specialized medical care.
