Construction work on SM City Tagbilaran, Bohol’s first SM mall, continues to advance following the project’s groundbreaking ceremony held in February 2025, according to SM Prime Holdings officials.

Steve Tan of SM Malls confirmed that the company has finalized the bidding process for the major retail development project and expects substantial construction work to accelerate before the year’s end. 

The mall is projected to open in 2028, carving a milestone for the province’s retail landscape.

SM Prime Holdings officially broke ground for the project on February 27, 2025, in Barangay Cogon, Tagbilaran City, with the development representing the company’s first major retail investment in Bohol province.

The 60,000-square-meter development will feature eco-friendly design elements as part of SM’s sustainability commitment.

Company officials have said that their dedication to local hiring practices, promising employment opportunities throughout both the construction phase and eventual mall operations.

The mall site is strategically located along a major thoroughfare in the provincial capital, positioning it to serve both local residents and the province’s thriving tourism sector.

The SM City Tagbilaran project is part of SM Prime’s expansion strategy across the Philippines, bringing modern retail amenities to emerging markets outside Metro Manila. 

Upon completion, the mall will house various retail stores, dining establishments, entertainment facilities, and services typical of SM’s mall format.

Construction is expected to continue through 2027, with the mall’s grand opening scheduled for 2028, pending no delays in the construction timeline.
