A flood control project worth 14.685 million pesos has finally begun construction in Lumbay, Pilar, Bohol, several months after its originally scheduled start date.
The project, which aims to construct flood mitigation structures and drainage systems, is being implemented by Fuentabuilt Construction Corporation under the supervision of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Bohol 3rd District Engineering Office.
According to project signage posted at the construction site, the project was scheduled to begin on February 12, 2025, with a completion target of August 19, 2025.
However, construction activities have only recently commenced, raising questions about potential delays in the timeline.
The flood control project falls under the jurisdiction of Third District Representative Alexie Besas-Tutor and is funded through the General Appropriations Act (GAA) for Fiscal Year 2025.
The project specifically targets flood mitigation in the Lumbay area of Pilar, Bohol, an area that has allegedly experienced flooding issues during heavy rainfall and typhoon seasons.
The construction includes the installation of drainage infrastructure designed to protect residents and properties from flood damage.
Pilar residents have expressed mixed reactions to the delayed start, with some questioning whether the August completion date remains achievable given the late commencement of work.
Cong. Tutor and the DPWH Bohol 3rd District Engineering Office have not yet responded to requests for comment regarding the project timeline and any potential adjustments to the completion schedule.
