Buenavista, Bohol town celebrated its annual fiesta on October 7, 2025 even as its mayor called for replacing the electricity distributor over persistent service problems.
Mayor Dave Duallo told DYTR that the festivities ran from October 6-7, 2025 with preparatory activities beginning September 28.
The celebration included religious ceremonies organized by the church and cultural, sports and social events mounted by the local government.
This year’s fiesta featured a fun run and revived traditional dances, while a fundraising drive raised money for church renovations, Duallo said.
But the mayor voiced frustration over frequent low voltage problems from Bohol 2 Electric Cooperative (BOHECO 2), which serves the town.
He said the power issues damaged household appliances and disrupted fiesta preparations.
“We have reached the tipping point,” Duallo said, calling for residents to consider switching to another electricity provider with better resources when the cooperative’s franchise expires in 2030.
Most residents appear receptive to changing distributors, according to the mayor, who warned that unstable power supply makes it difficult to attract investors to Buenavista.
