Balilihan Mayor Trisha V. Chatto (3rd from left), welcomed a research team from the University of the Philippines Marine Science Institute, who are studying the TATUD or TAMILOK found in Abatan River. The TATUD species in Balilihan is unique as it feeds on rocks instead of wood, unlike those found in other areas. The Lithoredo Abatanica is currently a finalist in the International Mollusc of the Year 2026 competition. If they win, they will partner with the Senckenberg Research Institute in Germany to further study the L. Abatanica. (Contributed photo)
