BWUI announces new water lines and WASH caravan rollout in Bohol
Bohol Water Utilities Inc. (BWUI) spokesperson Victor Tambis revealed updates about new lines and the Water Sanitation and Health (WASH) caravan.
The program is in line with the laying of new lines within the service areas.
BWUI is informing the public that the newly-installed lines in various areas are now operational and can be connected to certain households.
The new lines are along CPG North Avenue from Baguio Drive to Salazar Street.
Another line is in Dao, along Zamora Street from J.A. Clarin to Bohol Technical Training Institute.
Another one is along Toledo Street from J.A. Clarin to Calichan Subdivision.
Moreover, there is a new line along Darunday Street from Centro Barangay Dao to Tiptip, passing by Lindaville Subdivision to Dominic Drive.
These new lines are operational and consumers may apply for connection.
Meanwhile, the WASH caravan is now in Dao.
The orientation was held on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.
The next caravan will be in Ubujan and then in Taloto.

Bohol Light suspends disconnections for May to July bills amid energy emergency
Bohol Light promised that there will be no disconnection for May, June and July billings.
This was disclosed by Frederick Malce of Bohol Light.
This is in line with the advisory issued by the Energy Regulatory Commission meant to protect consumers from all electric industry stakeholders.
This is under Executive Order 110 issued by President Marcos Jr. on March 24, 2025.
The order declared a state of national energy emergency amid the conflict in the Middle East among US, Iraq, and Israel that has caused fuel prices to spike and leading to the energy crisis.
Based on the mandate, all distribution utilities have suspended disconnection for residential and non-residential consumers for non-payment of the May, June and July billing cycle.
The company is providing a payment option plan for consumers that consume no more than 200 kilowatt hours by extending the grace period for three months.
The consumer needs to submit a promissory note to the customer welfare desk to process the application.
The directive encourages all who can pay to settle the bills to help in the cash flow and avoid inconvenience in the next months.

TANOCAL thankful for boost from allies
Art Romanos, president of the Tagbilaran Association of Northern California (TANOCAL) thanked allies for providing boost in the plan to stags a medical mission.
He said he was able to solicit the help of lawyer Libby Casilan who is the president of a local Lions Club of Tagbilaran. .
As earlier reported, TANOCAL plans to hold a medical mission in February 2027 wherein doctors based in the United States will visit Bohol to help indigent patients.
The mission will feature a surgical mission for cataract patients.
Romanos is thankful that he was able to get some boost from other groups with the intention to help.
He said he was able to get help from the Bohol Medical Society, Bohol Dental Association, Philippine Nurses Association, Diocese of Tagbilaran, and the Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Medical Center.
Romanos said it has become a tradition for Filipinos abroad to help those from the Motherland.
He said he also hosted the Singing Priests of Tagbilaran in their US tour.
In turn the priest also sent support to the medical mission.
The priests offered the facilities of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Seminary in Taloto.
Romanos can’t believe that there is an outpouring of support coming from several sectors.
Youth leader Hinlo urges young people to rediscover the spirit of volunteerism
Youth leader Carl Hinlo, a stalwart of Kabataan for Change, criticized young people for losing their grip on the spirit of volunteerism.
Hinlo said this as he anchored Newsmakers ug Uban Pa on July 17, 2026.
He said some young people are forced to volunteer, as some needed encouragement just to join.
He mentioned this as choreographers find it difficult to look for talents for the street dancing and ritual showdown competitions at the Sandugo.
Hinlo said the Sandugo is a way to return to the roots and honor the past.
The Sandugo reminds us that we have a culture of cooperation and agreement.
The Sandugo is a way to welcome guests’ differences in culture.
The Blood Compact was born out of dialogue and peaceful negotiations.
This is a lesson for us that we can solve the differences when we look for ways to resolve the conflicts.
Hinlo said Sandugo plays a huge role in the tourism and economy of Bohol.
Sandugo defines us as a people and reminds us of our creativity and freedoms.
As youth we can learn to be humble and patient, he said.

Bohol Tourism sees 59% drop in early 2026, columnist warns of sustainability and cost issues
Bohol Tribune columnist Donald Sevilla said Bohol’s tourism sector is showing signs of decline.
He cited data indicating that the sector declined by 59 percent.
Sevilla said the statistics are supported by conditions observed on the ground.
He said he obtained data from the Panglao Tourism Office showing that from January to May 2026, tourist arrivals continued to decline.
During that period, a total of about 46,000 tourists were registered, including both foreign and domestic visitors.
Sevilla said Bohol used to welcome far more tourists in the past.
He noted how nature is being treated, and said the current state affects visitor experience.
He said tourism income can only be sustainable if the environment is properly cared for.
Sevilla asked what concerned government agencies are doing to protect the environment.
He also said he cannot dismiss the growing perception that Bohol is too expensive.
According to him, information now spreads quickly, and a single complaint can go viral in an instant.
He said he often reads comments from visitors who are not satisfied with services and who cite exorbitant prices.
Sevilla said that over time, these issues eventually hurt the tourism industry.
He said the way tourism is conducted affects Bohol’s ability to attract visitors.
The decline may be an indication that there is something wrong, he said.
He added that there is a need to give tourists a reason to return to Bohol.
Borja Bridge opens one lane as DPWH starts retrofitting work
Borja Bridge, the link between Panglao Island and mainland Bohol, is opening only one lane to traffic which started on July 13, 2026.
This was confirmed by Jefferson Berberes, the contractor representative.
Berberes said only one lane was opened to traffic by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
The contractor is working on the approach of the bridge by installing sheet piles.
Berberes said that the sheet piles are needed to prevent the collapse of the riprap that showed some cracks.
He added that the new work is part of the retrofitting under the bridge.
There is no deadline yet on the installation of the sheet piles.
The project funds come from the DPWH regional office.
Danao councilor Paul Cepedoza to run for barangay captain in Magtangtang
Reports confirm that Danao councilor Paul Cepedoza will run for barangay captain this coming election set on November 2, 2026.
This was disclosed by Danao Vice Mayor Jose Cepedoza, who is Paul’s uncle.
Jose said that Paul will run in Barangay Magtangtang, the barangay of Paul’s dad.
Paul is the son of Board Member Romulo Cepedoza, who is the president of Liga ng mga Barangay in Bohol.
Romulo is the brother of Jose, and Paul is the cousin of Mayor Celeste Lerion.
Jose said Paul wants to be the Liga president of Danao to be eligible to run as the Liga provincial president like his father.
Romulo is term-limited and is no longer eligible to run for the election.
Paul aimed earlier to be the president of the Philippine Councilors League Bohol chapter, but failed to run.
He did not push the plan as Gov. Aris Aumentado supported the candidacy of San Isidro councilor Gloria Gementiza.
DMW urges OFWs, public to stay vigilant vs trafficking, illegal recruitment
Following a directive from President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to strengthen protective measures, the Department of Migrant Workers is urging overseas Filipino workers, their families, and government employees to remain vigilant against human trafficking and illegal recruitment.
During a briefing for National Anti-Trafficking Awareness Month in July, Undersecretary Darlene Pajarito emphasized that everyone should learn the indicators and “red flags” of trafficking by heart.

ATI Central Visayas opens applications for 2027 Japan, Taiwan internship programs
The Agricultural Training Institute in Central Visayas is now accepting applications for its 2027 International Internship Programs in Japan and Taiwan, a partnership aimed at training qualified young Filipino farmers to become agricultural leaders and entrepreneurs.
The application deadline is set for August 14, 2026, followed by provincial exams on September 7, 2026, and field validations from September 14 through October 15, 2026. Applicants must be single, childless, not pregnant, children of farmers or fishers, and own agricultural land with at least two years of practical farming experience.
The age requirement is 21 to 30 years old for Japan and 21 to 35 years old for Taiwan, and applicants cannot be closely related to any ATI employee or be past beneficiaries of the program.
For the Japan program specifically, candidates must also have no tattoos or body piercings and pass a rigorous series of medical, dental, and neuro-psychological evaluations from DOH-accredited clinics to obtain a “Fit to Work” result.

GSIS Raises Funeral Benefit to P50,000
The Government Service Insurance System has increased its funeral benefit for government workers and qualified pensioners from P30,000 to P50,000 for claims involving deaths on or after July 13, 2026.
The agency expects to extend this assistance to around 21,000 to 25,000 families each year, allocating up to P1.25 billion annually to sustain the expanded program.
This one-time payment will be distributed following a strict priority order starting with the legitimate spouse, followed by the legitimate child who covered the burial costs, or any other person who can provide sufficient proof of paying for the funeral.

₱70-M BFP office and first fire lab planned in Bohol
The Bureau of Fire Protection is planning to construct a ₱70-million, four-storey Regional Satellite Office in Barangay Malayo Sur, Cortes, Bohol.
Spearheaded by local and regional fire officials, the facility will feature a dedicated training center for 100 personnel on its first floor and offices for the regional director’s command group on the second floor.

65-year-old woman hacked to death in Bilar; suspect found dead
A tragic incident occurred in Purok 2, Barangay Cansumbol, Bilar, Bohol on the night of July 14 when a 65-year-old woman named Carmen was hacked to death with a bolo inside her home by her 59-year-old former partner, alias Long-long.
The victim was attacked when she opened her door while having dinner with her minor grandchild and was later declared dead on arrival at the Carmen District Hospital.
Following a swift response by the Bilar Police Station and local officials, the suspect was found dead inside his home in Sitio Mayana after hanging himself before he could be apprehended, and authorities are currently investigating the motive.
13-year-old boy dies after electrocution while charging phone in Sikatuna
A 13-year-old boy named Mike tragically lost his life on Wednesday night, July 15, after being electrocuted inside his room in Purok 4, Barangay Cambuac Sur, Sikatuna, Bohol.
His mother discovered him unconscious after hearing an unusual sound coming from his bedroom, where he had been lying down while charging his cellphone using an extension wire.
Although the family immediately administered first aid and called for an ambulance, the teenager could not be revived, and the Sikatuna Municipal Police Station is continuing its investigation, though no foul play is suspected.
2 alleged drug pushers nabbed in Bohol buy-bust; ₱73k worth of shabu seized
Law enforcement operatives arrested two suspected street-level drug pushers in separate intelligence-driven buy-bust operations in Bilar and Candijay, Bohol on the night of July 15.
In Bilar, a 27-year-old suspect known as Opaw was caught with 6.64 grams of suspected shabu valued at ₱45,152, while in Candijay, a 32-year-old suspect named Jerry Boy was caught with 4.14 grams worth ₱28,152.
Both suspects are currently detained and face formal charges for violating the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
50-year-old farmer hospitalized after stabbed by 75-year-old in Valencia
A long-standing dispute led to violence in Purok 3, Barangay Anoyon, Valencia, Bohol on the night of July 12 when a 75-year-old farmer named Roman allegedly hacked a 50-year-old fellow farmer named Justino with a bolo.
The confrontation began when the victim blocked the suspect’s path while he was grazing his cow, prompting the suspect to strike the victim in the arm and ribs.
Justino was rushed to the Leona Memorial Hospital for treatment, while Roman was apprehended by barangay officials and turned over to the Valencia Municipal Police Station where he faces charges pending a medico-legal evaluation.
Security guard nabbed for running over child
A security guard identified as alias Nick was arrested by local authorities after running over a five-year-old child with his motorcycle in Barangay Lourdes, Cortes on July 15, 2026.
The young victim suffered multiple injuries and was quickly rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
The Cortes police have taken the suspect into custody along with his motorcycle, and he is now facing formal charges of reckless imprudence resulting in physical injuries.
Drug pusher nabbed in Sagbayan buy-bust; ₱102,544 in shabu seized
The Sagbayan Municipal Drug Enforcement Team, led by Police Captain Eric B. Binangbang, successfully arrested a 55-year-old suspected drug pusher known as Arman during an early morning buy-bust operation on Friday in Barangay Ubujan, Sagbayan, Bohol.
During the apprehension, authorities confiscated approximately 15.08 grams of suspected shabu valued at ₱102,544.
Along with the illegal narcotics, police recovered an unserialized .45-caliber pistol and three live rounds of ammunition from the suspect, who is now facing appropriate criminal charges.
Elderly man seriously hurt in motorcycle accident in Tagbilaran
A serious road accident occurred in Barangay San Isidro, Tagbilaran City around 7 p.m. on Friday, leaving a 60-year-old pedestrian severely injured.
The victim, identified as Tirso Vandetten Sr. of Barangay Tiptip, was walking along Dagohoy Road when he was struck by a motorcycle driven by Vlad Ryan Benedicto.
The collision caused serious injuries to the elderly pedestrian, who was rushed to the Governor Celestino Gallares Memorial Medical Center, while the injured motorcycle driver was taken to Ace Medical Center for treatment.
P1.1M Shabu Seized From Welder in Tagbilaran Buy-Bust
A joint anti-illegal drug operation conducted by PDEA Bohol, the Tagbilaran City Police Station, and the Bohol Maritime Police resulted in the arrest of a 27-year-old welder on Tuesday evening in Purok 8, Barangay Bool, Tagbilaran City.
The suspect, identified as Jefferson Avila Binarao, was caught selling suspected shabu to undercover operatives.
Authorities recovered four large sachets of the illegal substance weighing roughly 163 grams, with a total estimated standard drug price of ₱1,108,400, and are preparing the necessary charges against him.
Drug Suspect Nabbed in Loboc Buy-Bust
An early morning buy-bust operation conducted by the Loboc Drug Enforcement Unit in Barangay Gotozon resulted in the arrest of a 27-year-old unemployed man identified as Junriel Pacatang.
The suspect, who is tagged as a street-level pusher, allegedly sold a sachet of suspected shabu to a poseur-buyer for ₱500, leading to a secondary search that uncovered more contraband.
In total, authorities seized 3.84 grams of suspected shabu with an estimated standard drug price of ₱26,112.
Barangay official arrested in Loon drug bust

Classified as a High-Value Individual by the Bohol Police Provincial Office, the local official was caught with suspected shabu valued at ₱51,680 along with the buy-bust money.
The suspect remains in custody at the Loon Municipal Police Station facing severe charges under Republic Act 9165 as part of the provincial police’s ongoing campaign against illegal drugs led by Police Colonel Patricio C. Degay Jr.
35 live pigs illegally brought into Bohol from Cebu seized in Getafe
On July 15, 2026, a coordinated team of the Philippine National Police and the Philippine Coast Guard intercepted a total of 35 illegal live piglets across two operations in Getafe, Bohol to safeguard the province against African Swine Fever.
The animals originated from Barangay Sonog in San Francisco, Cebu, and were transported on the vessel FBCA Koy and Tin Express without the necessary legal documentation.
This shipment directly violated Executive Order No. 28, a 60-day temporary ban enforced by Governor Aumentado, leading to the turning over of the piglets to the Getafe Municipal ASF Inter-Agency Task Force and the detention of the transport vessel for further investigation.

Tagbilaran council thanks LTO for deputizing police
The Sangguniang Panlungsod of Tagbilaran approved a resolution thanking the Land Transportation Office (LTO) for deputizing and giving special training to members of the Tagbilaran City Police Station, to strengthen the enforcement of traffic and transportation laws in the city.
Under Proposed Resolution No. 207-26 sponsored by Councilor Fausto Budlong, the Sangguniang Panlungsod formally expressed its gratitude to LTO Region VII Regional Director Atty. Wendel Dinglasan and to the LTO Central Office for approving the deputization of the police.
Through the deputization, police now have the authority to enforce land transportation laws, including apprehending public utility vehicles with violations, inspecting vehicles with infractions, and carrying out official procedures in apprehending traffic violators.
According to the council, the police underwent technical and legal training conducted by the LTO to ensure proper enforcement of traffic laws and apprehension procedures.
With their expanded authority, deputized police can now enforce transportation regulations in public vehicle terminals, major roads and national highways within the jurisdiction of Tagbilaran City.
The resolution traced that the initiative started through a request from the City Government on August 12, 2025, asking the LTO for help in addressing the growing traffic problem and the operation of illegal public utility vehicles.
The said request was first submitted to then LTO Region VII Director Glen Galario and was implemented under the leadership of Dinglasan.
According to the council, this partnership will strengthen the local police’s capacity to curb illegal transportation, reinforce compliance with traffic laws, and maintain a safe, smooth and organized public transportation system in the city.
Copies of the resolution will be sent to LTO Region VII and to the LTO Central Office as the city’s formal recognition of the agency’s support and its continued cooperation in enforcing traffic laws.
BPPO reshuffles command staff; Berondo named DPDO
The Bohol Police Provincial Office (BPPO) implemented changes in its key officials under the order of Provincial Director PCol. Patricio Degay Jr. to strengthen police operations in the province.
PLt. Col. Joseph Berondo confirmed that he was appointed as Deputy Provincial Director for Operations (DPDO) of the BPPO.
Berondo replaced PLt. Col. Joemar Pomarejos, who was transferred as Provincial Intelligence Chief of the BPPO.
Pomarejos also replaced PLt. Col. Arwen National, who was transferred to a new assignment in Cebu.
Before his new post, Berondo was the head of the Police Community Affairs and Development Unit (PCADU) of the BPPO.
According to Berondo, PCol. Degay has not yet appointed a replacement for the PCADU chief position he vacated.
The BPPO also has not yet announced if there will be additional changes in other key positions as part of the command reorganization.
The transfer of officials is part of PCol. Degay’s directive to further improve operational efficiency and the enforcement of peace and order throughout the province of Bohol.
Bohol SP reviews ₱80-m solar project for capitol
The Committee on Government Properties, Enterprises and Related Undertakings of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Bohol has started discussing the proposed ₱80-million Solar Photovoltaic (PV) System for the new Provincial Capitol.
The project, which is backed by Governor Aris Aumentado, has a capacity of 1.0-megawatt-peak (MWp) and was reviewed by the committee headed by Board Member Greg Crispinito Jala.
The proposal, included in a letter from Aumentado and Provincial Administrator Asteria C. Caberte on June 23, will be implemented through a Design-Build-Operate-Transfer (DBOT) scheme.
It has already received a favorable recommendation from the Local Finance Committee and is still being evaluated by the committee before it is submitted to the plenary Provincial Board for further action.
Board Member Fernando Estavilla attended the deliberation, together with department heads of the Provincial Government of Bohol.
The solar project is expected to reduce the Capitol’s electricity costs and strengthen the provincial government’s use of clean and sustainable energy.
DOE recognizes Bohol as one of 2 provinces monitoring fuel prices
The Department of Energy (DOE) recognized Bohol as one of only two provinces in the country that continuously and regularly monitors fuel prices to strengthen transparency and protect consumers.
The recognition was highlighted during a meeting on July 16 between officials of the DOE Visayas Field Office and the Provincial Government of Bohol (PGBh) at the Provincial Capitol, where both sides also agreed to strengthen coordination in regulating the downstream oil industry and consumer protection.
According to Engr. Jose Maleza, head of the Oil Industry Management Division of the DOE Visayas Field Office, Bohol and Iloilo are among the provinces that continue to implement fuel price monitoring through their local mechanisms.
In Bohol, this is done through the Bohol Price Monitoring Council, which monitors fuel prices to ensure transparency and accountability in the local market.
The meeting also discussed fuel price monitoring, enforcement of industry regulations, and ensuring compliance with safety standards, including strengthening coordination between the DOE and the provincial government.
Provincial officials, led by Provincial Administrator Asteria Caberte as representative of Gov. Aris Aumentado, also affirmed the province’s continued support for DOE programs to protect consumers and strengthen a fair and efficient downstream oil industry.
Bohol adopts roadmap for Loboc River Watershed Management
The Loboc River Watershed Management Council (LRWMC) approved a governance roadmap to strengthen the management of the Loboc River Watershed, which unites 15 local government units (LGUs) under a common policy for environmental protection and strengthening climate resilience.
The roadmap was approved during the council’s first meeting on July 16 at Panda Tea Garden Suites, which was convened by the Provincial Government of Bohol and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources–Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (DENR-PENRO).
Among the priorities for 2026 to 2027 are conducting Climate and Vulnerability Risk Assessments (CVRA), implementing the Integrated Watershed Resources Management Plan (IWRMP), leadership training, project development workshops, regular council meetings, and approval of the Manual of Operations.
The roadmap aims to strengthen long-term management of the watershed covering 15 municipalities, which supports water supply, agriculture, biodiversity, eco-tourism, and flood management in Bohol.
According to Forester Wilson Henson, chairperson of the LRWMC, the watershed must be managed as a single ecosystem because activities in upland areas have a direct impact on water quality, tourism, and flood risk in lowland areas.
The council also discussed challenges such as soil erosion, flooding, sedimentation, and lack of coordination in management, which require stronger collaboration among LGUs, national agencies, and partner institutions.
The council also reviewed the Climate Change and Disaster Risk (CCDR) Assessment Report of the Loboc River Tourism System, using DOST-PAGASA climate projections and the PIEVC Green Protocol as guides for evidence-based planning.
Joint inspection of Loboc River Project set on July 24
The long-awaited joint inspection of the alleged controversial Loboc River Flood Control Project has been scheduled for July 24, after the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) officially confirmed the new inspection date.
According to Loboc Mayor Raymond Jala, the joint inspection was originally scheduled for July 2, 2026, but did not push through because DPWH Region 7 Regional Director Engr. Simon Arias had important official engagements to attend.
Jala said that Arias, whose office is implementing the project, is expected to personally attend the inspection on July 24.
Those expected to join include the Provincial Government of Bohol, LGU-Loboc, Loboc People’s Council, Loboc Association of Hospitality and Accommodation (LAHA), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), and other agencies and stakeholders.
Meanwhile, Anter Calipusan, president of the Loboc People’s Council and Loboc CSO Federation, announced that they met on July 16, to discuss the latest status of the flood control project and the Loboc River.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Bohol Provincial Environment Management Office (BPEMO), Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), DPWH, and LGU-Loboc.
Calipusan added that they have also received an official invitation to join the joint inspection on July 24.
It is hoped that through the inspection, all concerned parties will be able to see the actual condition of the project and address the concerns raised regarding its implementation and the possible impact on the Loboc River, one of Bohol’s main tourism destinations, on the environment and livelihood.
BCCI pushes wage freeze, warns of possible layoffs amid tourism drop
The Bohol Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) called on the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board-7 (RTWPB-7) to maintain the current minimum wage in Bohol for now, warning that a possible wage increase in 2026 could lead to employee layoffs, delayed business plans, and reduced operations in some companies.
In a position paper submitted on July 14, the BCCI said that the welfare of workers is important but any wage increase should match the actual capacity of businesses and the economic situation of Bohol which relies heavily on tourism and agriculture.
The BCCI pointed out the many challenges faced by businesses this year, including a big drop in tourist arrivals, a decline in chartered flights, a 25 percent decrease in cargo arrivals that raised logistics costs, and inflation that averaged 4.8 percent from January to May and rose further to 7.4 percent in May.
Also included are the continued rise in fuel prices and unstable electricity rates.
According to BCCI President Steven Lim, about 80 percent of the chamber’s 156 member companies are micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and many of them started their businesses with borrowed capital and are still paying off their debts.
The BCCI warned that if labor costs rise without an increase in productivity, businesses may be forced to reduce hiring, delay expansion plans, or lay off workers to keep their operations stable.
Instead of a wage increase, the BCCI proposed giving bigger tax relief through the gradual increase of the income tax exemption until the first ₱1 million of taxable annual income becomes tax-free.
According to the chamber, this would increase workers’ take-home pay without adding costs to businesses.
They also called on the government to strengthen non-wage interventions such as tax relief, affordable housing, subsidized basic goods, better public transportation, and additional healthcare benefits.
COVID-19 cases in Philippines drop 70% this year — DOH
The Department of Health (DOH) reported that only 1,532 confirmed Covid-19 cases were recorded nationwide from January 4 to July 11, 2026.
According to the health agency, this shows a 70 percent decrease compared to the 5,070 cases recorded during the same period in 2025.
Despite the big drop in infections, the DOH assured that it will continue to monitor the situation through its regional offices and local government units.
Because of this, they continue to call on the public to remain vigilant and maintain proper hygiene — such as frequent handwashing and covering the mouth when coughing or sneezing — to prevent the spread of the virus and other respiratory illnesses.
Tagbilaran strengthens disaster preparedness with OCD and TARSIER 117 ICS training
The Tagbilaran City Government under the leadership of Mayor Jane Yap strengthened the city’s disaster preparedness through an Incident Command System (ICS) Executive Course conducted by the Office of Civil Defense and TaRSIER 117 on July 17 at JJ’s Seafood Village.
The training was attended by members of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC), City Councilor Fausto “Bebot” Budlong, chairperson of the Committee on Peace, Order and Public Safety of the Sangguniang Panlungsod, and other officials and emergency response stakeholders.
The training was led by Dennis A. Atto, head of the Capacity-Building and Training Section of the OCD, and Darwin S. Bernasor, Head of Emergency Communications of TaRSIER 117.
The Incident Command System, which is mandated under Republic Act No. 10121, is the national system for managing disasters, emergencies, and large-scale events.
The training discussed incident command, inter-agency coordination, and effective emergency management.
According to Councilor Budlong, this is part of Tagbilaran City’s continuing efforts to strengthen coordination, leadership, and the readiness of responders for faster and more efficient emergency response.
Abusive tricycle drivers may lose driving privilege – TODA
TODA assured that abusive drivers who charge passengers excessive fares may have their driving privilege revoked, during a hearing held at City Hall.
According to TODA, overcharging fares is a violation of the law, and they will monitor their members regarding this.
The fare at the port was also discussed, where chartered trips for those in the queue should only be equivalent to payment for three passengers, and should not exceed that.
Tricycle drivers were also urged to give discounts to Senior Citizens, PWDs, and students because, according to them, it is a right that they deserve to enjoy.
Those with fare privileges suggested that only P1.00 be added for succeeding kilometers because it is a heavy burden for students and Senior Citizens who no longer have a source of income.
A fare bracket was also proposed due to the fluctuating price of fuel, but TODA and the Sangguniang Panglungsod agreed on a P15.00 base fare and only the succeeding kilometers will be adjusted.
TODA suggested adding P3.00 to the previous P2.00 for succeeding kilometers.
The council still needs to clarify whether P1.00 or P3.00 will be added to the succeeding kilometer-fare, and this will be known on Tuesday during the weekly SP session.
LGU Panglao blesses new vehicles for emergency and public service
The Local Government Unit of Panglao celebrated a significant step in strengthening its disaster preparedness, emergency response, and public service through the official blessing of newly acquired vehicles and equipment.
The ceremony held on July 11, 2026, was officiated and blessed by Rev. Fr. Nilo Batausa, the town’s parish priest, as a symbol of the start of a safe and orderly use of these assets for the benefit of the entire community.
Among the new assets that were blessed are a total of eight pieces of equipment that will be used for various town operations.
This includes two new water response assets that will greatly help in implementing maritime safety, one garbage collector boat for maintaining the cleanliness of the coastline, one large response truck for the Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (LDRRMO) and one service vehicle for the Rural Health Unit.
The purchase of these equipment is part of the government’s continuing effort to expand and speed up its ability to serve both residents and tourists in Panglao.
Municipal Mayor Hon. Capt. Edgardo “Boy” Arcay emphasized the great importance of the event, especially as the town prepares for the upcoming 5150 Triathlon, one of the biggest and most well-known sporting events in the country.
According to the mayor, these additional emergency response assets will serve as a strong safeguard to ensure immediate aid and safety for the athletes, race officials, spectators, as well as local residents.
Aside from supporting the success of the international race, these equipment will remain a lasting legacy for the town’s long-term operations in saving lives and property.
With these new water assets, response truck, and RHU vehicle, the LGU’s quality of response to emergencies, disasters, maritime incidents, medical needs, and activities aimed at environmental protection is expected to further improve.
The presence of these modern equipment shows the government’s serious commitment to be fast and effective whenever government assistance is urgently needed.
The colorful event was also attended and supported by town officials, including MDRRMO and MENRO head Mr. Abelio A. Arbilo, RHU Municipal Doctor Dr. Jon Mark Verga, along with MENRO reef rangers, Bantay Dagat of Poblacion, and the entire staff of LDRRMO and MENRO who will lead in managing and using these new equipment for everyone’s safety.
5150 Triathlon kicks off with 6:00 am rolling start and 1.5k swim
The 5150 Triathlon will present a rolling start for age-group, solo, and relay participants at 6:00 AM.
It will begin with an open-water swim going out to sea from Bellevue Resort for a distance of 1.5 kilometers before returning to the shore for the bike transition.
Here, each participant will be given one hour to complete that distance in order to be allowed to enter the bike transition.
After this, using road bikes or hybrid mountain bikes, participants will cover a 40-kilometer flat course where they will do two loops and three turn-arounds along the Dauis-Panglao road.
After the bike, the 10-kilometer run will immediately follow.
Drivers are advised to take a break or at least give way to cyclists racing on the route from Doljo going to Panglao Church, and onward to the Dauis border along the center line from 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM.
After another loop back to the Dauis border, cyclists will then push back to Bellevue for the run transition.
Cyclists who are not able to meet the cut-off time of three hours and thirty minutes for the 40-kilometer bike course will no longer be allowed to proceed to the run segment.
For the run segment, from Bellevue, athletes will go out onto the road from Doljo toward Poblacion, Panglao, and turn right onto Bil-isan Road where a turn-around slot is located.
Bohol athlete prepares for Taiwan competition
Pinay professional bodybuilder and International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness (IFBB) Pro Figure athlete Michelle Dela Peña, who currently lives in the town of Dauis, is preparing to carry the name of Bohol and the Philippines as she gets ready for an international competition in Taiwan this December.
In an interview with a media outlet, Dela Peña revealed that she is already in intense and systematic training in preparation for the tournament.
She said that this competition is one of the important steps to qualify and reach bigger professional bodybuilding events in the United States in 2027, where she hopes to join some of the most prestigious competitions in the IFBB Pro League.
According to her, her husband Scot Bird, a sports and wellness coach, plays a big role as her personal trainer and manages her daily conditioning, nutrition and competition preparation.
Alongside their preparation for the international competition, the couple is also developing their sports and wellness programs in Dauis.
Part of this is the upcoming opening of their facility inside the former Bohol Plaza Resort, which has now been converted into Rising Dragon School, where they plan to develop physical fitness, sports performance and holistic wellness in the community.
Dela Peña has become an inspiration to many Filipina athletes after she earned her IFBB Pro League Figure Pro Card in September 2025, a major achievement that allowed her to compete in professional competitions at the international level.
The IFBB Pro League is one of the most well-known organizations in professional bodybuilding and is the pathway to the prestigious Mr. Olympia and Olympia Weekend for professional athletes.
But before becoming part of the IFBB Pro League, Dela Peña went through many hardships and competed in many competitions in different countries.
If Dela Peña succeeds in her upcoming competition in Taiwan, her chances of joining major IFBB Pro League events in 2027 will increase, while she continues to raise the flag of Bohol and the Philippines on the international bodybuilding stage.
Bohol seeks visa upon arrival program
Governor Aris Aumentado has asked the Department of Tourism (DOT) to consider including Bohol in the Visa Upon Arrival program to make it easier for foreign tourists to enter.
This was revealed by Aumentado as a response and step from the capitol after a decline in tourist arrivals was recorded in the first part of the year.
Visa Upon Arrival is a method where qualified foreigners can obtain a visa upon their arrival in the Philippines instead of processing it at an embassy or consulate before traveling.
It is hoped that this will help encourage more tourists to choose to visit the country and Bohol.
According to Aumentado, the loss of the Chinese tourist market has had a big impact on the province’s tourism industry, which was previously one of the largest sources of visitors to Bohol.
The governor also admitted that not only Bohol is experiencing a decline in tourism, but many destinations across the country have also been affected.
Aumentado lamented the situation because tourism is one of the main pillars of Bohol’s economy that provides livelihood to thousands of Bol-anons.
According to him, one of the reasons for the decline in the arrival of Chinese tourists is the continuing tension between the Philippines and China due to the long-standing dispute over the West Philippine Sea, which has affected tourist travel and the relationship between the two countries.
Despite this, the Provincial Government of Bohol continues to strengthen the promotion of the province as one of the leading tourism destinations in the Philippines, while hoping that through measures such as Visa Upon Arrival and other DOT programs, the strong influx of foreign visitors will return in the coming months.
Tagbilaran port complaints sent to Globalport
The Sangguniang Panlungsod of Tagbilaran urged GlobalPort to take immediate action on the growing public complaints about the condition and service at the Port of Tagbilaran in order to improve the welfare and comfort of passengers.
During the regular session on July 14 led by Vice Mayor Adam Relson, the council directly presented to the GlobalPort Management the long-standing complaints filed by travelers and residents.
Councilor Fausto “Bebot” Budlong, chairman of the Committee on Peace, Order and Public Safety, led in laying out the pile of complaints from the public.
These include a hot and cramped departure area, lack of cellphone charging stations, no organized drop-off area, alleged poor treatment by some security personnel toward passengers, dirty and frequently closed comfort rooms, prohibition of passengers from going up to the second floor, and leaks in the terminal roof during rain.
Councilor Budlong also expressed concern over the lack of a permanent occupancy permit for the terminal, where establishments inside it continue to operate only under temporary permits.
Also discussed were complaints that some security personnel allegedly guide or direct passengers to certain motor-for-hire and van-for-hire operators.
GlobalPort Tagbilaran General Manager Keneston Soldevilla faced the council, acknowledged the issues raised but did not provide specific answers or immediate actions for each complaint during the session.
Instead, he accepted the council’s observations and promised that they would look into them to give appropriate action.
Soldevilla also invited the members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod to conduct an official inspection of the port so they could personally assess the condition and know what improvements are needed.
The Sangguniang Panlungsod hopes that the inspection will be the start of concrete steps by GlobalPort to resolve the long-standing complaints and improve service for the welfare of passengers and the public.
Balite pushes probe on alleged illegal condo pre-selling
Board Member Dionisio Joseph Balite called for an investigation against an unnamed real estate developer accused of illegally pre-selling condominium units even without a License to Sell, and for failing to refund buyers who requested refunds.
During the regular session of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan on Tuesday, July 14, led by Vice-Governor Nicanor Besas, Balite said regulatory agencies should immediately check if the developer complied with housing laws and ensure that buyers recover what they paid.
In his privilege speech, Balite revealed that complaints have already been filed against the developer that was alleged to have sold condominium units even without obtaining a License to Sell, which is required under Presidential Decree No. 957 or Subdivision and Condominium Buyers’ Protective Decree.
According to him, a developer has no legal right to sell condominium units if it has not obtained a License to Sell.
He also explained that the law first requires a Certificate of Registration and License to Sell before subdivision lots and condominium units can be sold to the public in order to protect buyers.
Balite also revealed that the developer failed to return the money to some buyers who requested refunds due to the alleged failure of the project to fulfill its obligations.
He asked the concerned agencies to check the legality of the pre-selling, investigate possible violations of the law, compel the developer to pay the refunds, and provide regular information to the public about the status of the cases and enforcement actions.
Balite also asked why buyers were able to purchase even without the proper regulatory safeguards and said there should be accountability in the use of the money of the buyers.
Balite said Bohol is open to legitimate investors but the province will not allow developers who violate the law and take advantage of property buyers.
He also urged the affected buyers to keep their receipts, contracts and other documents as evidence and to formally file complaints with the appropriate government agencies while the investigation is ongoing.
Balite did not name the developer in his privilege speech.
The issue raised by Balite was referred to the Committee on Trade and Industry for legislative inquiry and appropriate action.
Bohol to mark 172nd Founding Day
The Province of Bohol will celebrate its 172nd Founding Day on July 22, highlighting history, culture, and the continued development of the province under the theme “Sandugo sa Bohol: Celebrating Bonds, Celebrating Opportunities.”
The official activities will be held at the Bohol Cultural Center starting at 8:00 in the morning, with the attendance of provincial and municipal officials, representatives of the national government, and other invited guests.
The program will begin with a Holy Mass, followed by the formal welcome of guests, a procession honoring Bol-anon heroes, the entry of flags, and an ecumenical prayer.
Vice Governor Nicanor Besas will give the opening message for the event, while Governor Aris Aumentado will deliver his Bohol Day commemorative message.
DPWH Secretary Vivencio “Vince” B. Dizon will be the keynote speaker and is expected to talk about infrastructure projects and the unity between the national and provincial governments for the development of Bohol.
One of the main parts of the celebration is the Sandugo re-enactment, which commemorates the historic blood compact between Datu Sikatuna and Miguel López de Legazpi in 1565, a symbol of peace, friendship, and unity among Bol-anons.
Also included in the program are cultural presentations, giving of awards to outstanding Bol-anons, and a lunch that will end the official celebration.
Bohol Day is celebrated every July 22 in remembrance of the establishment of Bohol in 1854 as a politico-military province separate from Cebu.
It was also declared a special non-working holiday through Republic Act No. 7683.
Bohol panel tackles campus safety and lowering age of criminal liability
Campus Security and Mental Health, and Revisiting the Age of Criminal Liability were discussed by the Committee of the Whole of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP).
The SP of Bohol held a Committee of the Whole Meeting to discuss two major issues that arose following the horrific shooting at San Jose National High School in Tacloban City and the proposal to amend the criminal liability of minors.
The committee focused on strengthening campus security, mental health services, and violence prevention programs in all schools in the province.
The committee requested recommendations from officials of DepEd, CHED, university leaders, Provincial Health Office, Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, psychologists, BPPO, Provincial Legal Office, and representatives of the Parents-Teachers Association to improve the safety and welfare of students.
The said hearing yesterday, July 14 was presided over by Vice Governor Nicanor Besas, as Chairperson of the Committee of the Whole, following the manifestation of Board Member Mutya Kismet Tirol that school safety policies in Bohol need to be strengthened.
The Committee of the Whole also discussed the possibility of amending Republic Act No. 9344 or the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act, including the call to lower the minimum age of criminal liability from 15 years old to 10 years old.
The said discussion followed after the Sangguniang Panlalawigan received a resolution from the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Tagbilaran, which requested support for amending the current age of criminal liability and urged the three congressmen of Bohol to file and support the appropriate bill in Congress to amend RA 9344.
RTWPB-7 holds Bohol public hearing on proposed P700 daily wage
The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board-Central Visayas “RTWPB-7” “Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board-Central Visayas” will hold a public consultation today, July 15 at the Tagbilaran City Hall Atrium to hear the opinions of workers, employers and other sectors regarding petitions to increase the daily minimum wage in the private sector.
This is part of a series of consultations in the region before RTWPB-7 decides whether to issue a new wage order, amid the continued rise in prices of basic commodities and cost of living.
Labor groups are pushing for a P700 daily wage increase for Class B areas and P660 for Class A areas, saying that the current P540 daily minimum wage in Central Visayas is no longer enough to meet the rising cost of food, transportation, gasoline and other basic needs.
During the previous public consultation in Cebu City last June 25, representatives from the labor sector called on RTWPB-7 to expedite the approval of the wage increase due to the continued decline in the purchasing power of workers.
According to RTWPB-7, the consultations are aimed at gathering information on the economic situation and the opinions of workers, employers and other stakeholders as basis for issuing a new wage order.
After the Bohol hearing, there will be another public consultation in Balamban, Cebu on August 5, while consultations have already been held in Cebu City last June 25 and in Bogo City last July 9.
The latest wage order in Central Visayas took effect on October 4, 2025.
50-year-old farmer hospitalized after stabbed by 75-year-old in Valencia
A 50-year-old farmer was hospitalized after he was allegedly hacked with a bolo by a 75-year-old fellow farmer during their confrontation that stemmed from an old dispute in Purok 3, Barangay Anoyon, Valencia, Bohol, on the night of July 12.
The suspect, “Roman”, who is married and from Purok 3 was on his way home after grazing his cow when he was met by the victim, “Justino,
married, from Purok 4 also of the said barangay” who allegedly blocked his way and said, “Umayos ka.” (Straighten up.
The suspect allegedly immediately pulled out a bolo that he had tucked in his waist and hacked the victim, who sustained wounds on his arm and on the right side of his ribs.
The victim was immediately brought to Leona Memorial Hospital for treatment.
On the other hand, the suspect was apprehended by barangay officials and turned over to the responding police of the Valencia Municipal Police Station, who detained him.
The police investigation is ongoing for the appropriate charges to be filed against the suspect, which will still depend on the result of the medico-legal examination and evaluation of the evidence.
Bohol prepares for Sandugo 2026 showdown
Organizers are now intensifying their preparations for the anticipated Sandugo sa Bohol 2026 Festival of Festivals Street Dancing and Grand Showdown which will be held on July 26 at the CPG Complex in Tagbilaran City.
It is considered the biggest cultural performance in the Bohol Island Geopark where the best festival groups in the province will gather to celebrate their heritage, art, and community pride.
As part of the preparations, the Provincial Government of Bohol “PGBh” under the leadership of Governor Erico Aris Aumentado, through the Bohol Center for Culture and Arts Development “CCAD” held a meeting on July 14, 2026 at the CPG Hall of the Provincial Capitol to ensure the smooth and successful conduct of the event.
The said meeting was led by CCAD Head Emerson Pinos and attended by heads from various government agencies, the local government of Tagbilaran, participating municipalities, and other stakeholders.
The meeting discussed urgent aspects of operations and logistics, including security, traffic flow, road closure plans, placement of the performance area, and the performance lineup of the participants.
This year, nine municipalities will compete for the Festival of Festivals crown: Alburquerque, Loay, Maribojoc, Antequera, Valencia, Dimiao, Ubay, Catigbian, and Talibon.
To support their preparations, the PGBh distributed one million pesos P1,000,000 in subsidy for each participating municipality.
Bohol strengthens health leadership for UHC
Leaders from the province and health officials from across Central Visayas gathered at the Provincial Health Leadership Development Program (PHLDP) held on Friday, July 10, 2026 at the Bai Hotel in Mandaue City, Cebu.
The said gathering aimed to strengthen leadership capabilities and improve management approaches to support the effective implementation of Universal Health Care (UHC) in local government units.
Governor Aris Aumentado led the delegation of the Province of Bohol (PGBh) together with Provincial Administrator Asteria Caberte and Provincial Health Officer Dr. Fruserma Mary Uy.
The program emphasized the importance of bridging leadership to transform the province’s health system, where former Department of Health Secretary and current Chairman of the Zuellig Family Foundation Manuel Dayrit also discussed the benefits of the medical scholarship program of Bohol.
Also present at the regional gathering were Cebu Governor Pam Baricuatro and DOH Region VII Regional Director Dr. Joshua Brillantes to seal the shared commitment for UHC.
Through one of his Facebook posts, Gov. Aumentado expressed his great vision for the health of his constituents.
The governor said: “Ang atong tumong mao nga matag Bol-anon makatagamtam og kalidad, accessible, ug patas nga serbisyo sa panglawas pinaagi sa padayon nga pagpalig-on sa atong mga health facilities ug health programs sa tibuok probinsya. (Our goal is that every Boholano will experience quality, accessible, and fair health services through the continued strengthening of our health facilities and health programs across the province).
This step shows the continuing commitment of the PGBh to push for Universal Health Care through strong leadership and proper collaboration, which is aligned with the Strategic Governance Roadmap of the Capitol for a healthier and stronger Bohol—the first UNESCO Global Geopark in the Philippines.
