Buntis Congress 2026 strengthens maternal, child health in Tagbilaran
More than 75 expectant mothers from the city’s 15 barangays joined the Buntis Congress 2026 on July 27, 2026 at JJ’s Seafood Village in Tagbilaran City.
The activity was organized by the Tagbilaran City Primary Care Facility in partnership with the Department of Health–Central Visayas Center for Health Development.
It is part of the City Government’s intensified campaign to promote healthy pregnancies, safe childbirth, and proper maternal and child healthcare.
City Health Officer Dr. Jeia Pondoc welcomed the participants as she highlighted the importance of regular prenatal consultations and community-based health programs in reducing maternal and infant health risks.
The congress featured a series of health education sessions with topics that included maternal health, newborn and child care, family planning, nutrition during pregnancy, infant and young child feeding, and the National Immunization Program.
The discussions emphasized regular prenatal checkups, safe delivery practices, proper nutrition, exclusive breastfeeding, timely immunization, and responsible family planning.
Mr. Robin Culpa, Public Health Nurse Supervisor, led discussions on maternal and child healthcare, family planning, and immunization.
City Nutritionist Reynaldo Delos Santos provided guidance on proper nutrition during pregnancy.
Assistant City Nutritionist Joan Ganub discussed infant feeding practices and the benefits of exclusive breastfeeding and appropriate complementary feeding.
Mayor Jane Yap said the city government remains committed to protecting the health of mothers and children through preventive healthcare, nutrition programs, and accessible maternal services.
“Every healthy pregnancy is an investment in the future of our city. Through programs such as the Buntis Congress, we continue to empower mothers with the knowledge and support they need to ensure safe pregnancies, healthy babies, and stronger families,” Mayor Yap said.

Workshop sets architectural guidelines for Tagbilaran heritage zone
The City Government of Tagbilaran held the Tagbilaran City Heritage District Workshop on the Formulation of the Heritage District Architectural Style for New and Existing Structures on July 28-29, 2026 at JJ’s Seafood Village in Tagbilaran City.
The workshop focused on drafting the Implementing Rules and Regulations for the heritage district.
It covered architectural styles, building design standards, façade treatments, materials, adaptive reuse, and how new developments can remain compatible with Tagbilaran’s historic built environment.
Representing Mayor Jane Yap, was City Administrator Alvin Luis Acuzar and he delivered the mayor’s message.
He stressed the need to preserve Tagbilaran’s architectural identity while pursuing sustainable urban development.
A key highlight was the participation of Architect Maria Lourdes Onozawa as resource person.
She shared her expertise in heritage conservation and architectural planning.
Architect German Janus Niño Guidaben also provided valuable inputs for preserving Tagbilaran’s heritage.
The activity brought together local government officials, planners, architects, engineers, heritage advocates, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders.
Their goal was to help create a clear and standardized framework to guide future development within the city’s heritage district.
The workshop organized by the City Tourism Office, headed by Mr. Joseph Alexis Cadeliña,
forms part of the city government’s broader efforts to strengthen heritage conservation, cultural identity, and sustainable urban planning in Tagbilaran City.
