Political ripple sways in Baclayon, less than a year before the elections after a former candidate who ran under the banner of current Baclayon mayor Benny Uy has reportedly changed color and has joined the rival group headed by defeated mayoralty candidate Alvin Uy.
As this developed, Mayor Benny Uy revealed that he has no clue regarding the political plans of a former candidate for councilor who was reported to have allegedly changed allegiance from the incumbent mayor’s group to the group fo the political rival. .
Reports say that Juliet Caballo appeared in a meeting in a local restaurant on Thursday. May 27, 2021. The meeting was called by Baclayon vice mayor Romy Balangkig, who is aligned with defeated Baclayon mayoralty candidate Alvin Uy.
According to reports, Caballo’s appearance in the said meeting could be an indication that she has already changed alliances.
In a telephone interview yesterday, May 29, 2021, Mayor Benny Uy told The Bohol Tribune that he has no ifea about the political plans of Caballo who lost as a candidate for councilor in the last elections.
Based on the results of the 2019 polls, Caballo ended up in the 9th position and was unable to get a seat in the Sangguniang Bayan (SB) of Baclayon as only the top 8 vote getters were able to clinch seats in the said august body.
Mayor Uy added that he asked Caballo about her plans in the coming elections. The mayor was told that the ex-candidate for councilor was already busy engaging in another career, meaning that she might not anymore be interested to run for any position.
However, Mayor Benny Uy said that it is a democratic right to choose her alliances if indeed she is leaving his group.
According to a report, Cabello apparently is moving to Alvin Uy’s camp after a misunderstanding as allegedly Mayor Uy questioned her loyalty.
There were reports that Caballo was supposed to be the one filling up the vacancy in the SB of Baclayon following the death of councilor Ma. Vida Batoy.
In September, 2020, Gov. Arthur Yap appointed Mayor Uy’s son, Raymond, as the replacement for Batoy in the SB.
