The Department of Education (DepEd), through its Basic Education Facilities Fund, provided the resources for the construction of a 4-storey 24-classroom in Tagbilaran City Central. Elementary School (TCCES). This is according to a report by the City Media Bureau.
City Mayor John Geesnell Yap II is thankful to DepEd USec. Revsee Escobedo for including Tagbilaran City in the department’s list of localities to get funding for new school buildings.
The school building, which is nearing completion, will be an addition answer to the educational needs of the city, especially when the face-to-face classes resume soon.
The Special Education Fund (SEF) of the City Government has also been used extensively this year. The fund was used for the salaries of the security guards who are posted in public schools in Tagbilaran City.
The fund was also used in the procurement of toner materials for the printing of modules, rehabilitation of some school libraries, repair of roofing of some school buildings and hiring of nurses for the Dr. Cecilio Putong National High School, construction of covered courts in San Isidro and Dao Elementary Schools, deployment of teacher aides, and the procurement of equipment for the senior high schools.
The SEF of the City Government proved to be indispensable in this time of the pandemic. The SEF was used to provide some of the needs of the City DepEd through the provision of printing gadgets for blended learning. The gadgets are stationed at the Learning Resource Management System at Tagbilaran City Central School to hasten the production of modules, while heavy-duty photocopiers were provided to all the City’s public schools.
For calendar year 2020, the City DepEd produced and reproduced thousands of self-learning modules for K-10 and for the senior high school levels.
The SEF, under the term of Mayor Yap, increased exponentially, from P25 million in 2013 to P78 million in 2020.
