The Bohol Police Provincial Office (BPPO) has issued a warning to the public about
a scam involving fake boarding house offers in Tagbilaran City, Bohol.
According to the BPPO, some scammers have posted posts in online groups offering
boarding houses for rent, but they are not true.
The scammers ask for a down payment online, claiming that the rooms are limited
and need to be reserved.
However, when the victims go to the address, they find out that there is no boarding
house or that the rooms are already occupied.
BPPO advised the public to be vigilant and cautious when looking for a boarding
house online.
Police said that people should not give any money online without verifying the
identity and legitimacy of the offer.
PNP authorities also suggested that people should visit the place or boarding house
personally before making any payment. They urged anyone who has encountered or
fallen victim to this scam to report it to the nearest police station or call the BPPO
hotline at (038) 411-4982.
BPPO also reminded the public to always check the credibility and reputation of the
online groups or platforms where they are looking for a boarding house.
Police said that some groups may not have proper screening or verification
processes for their members or posts.
Bohol Police advised people to look for reliable and reputable sources of information,
such as official websites, social media pages, or newspapers of the local
government or agencies.
