The 15th Sangguniang Panlungsod of Tagbilaran City, under the leadership of Vice-Mayor Adam Relson Jala, has extended its heartfelt commendations to Virgel “El Valiente” Vitor, the city’s and Bohol province’s boxing luminary, for clinching the World Boxing Organization (WBO) Oriental Super Featherweight Title.
In a unanimous decision during their regular session on Friday, March 15, the council passed resolution no. 24-101, series of 2024, introduced by City Councilor Fausto “Bebot” Budlong, lauding Vitor’s significant accomplishment.
Vitor earned the prestigious WBO oriental title following a compelling victory over Taesun Kim of South Korea, concluding the main event of “Kumong Bol-anon” XIV with a knockout in the seventh round, held at Saulog Gym in Tagbilaran City on March 8.
Hailing from Barangay Booy, the celebrated boxer Vitor (22-3, 15 KOs) demonstrated remarkable resilience by recovering from a second-round knockdown to deliver a decisive right straight to Kim’s head (11-1-2, 8 KOs), leading to a knockout.
The commendation ceremony was attended by Vitor, his coaching team—Edsel Burlas and Romnick Hoybia—and his parents, who collectively received the council’s accolades.
The resolution also recognized Vitor’s exceptional boxing prowess, which was on full display as he outmaneuvered his South Korean opponent to secure the victory and the oriental super featherweight title.
Vitor’s victory is a testament to his dedication and serves as a beacon of inspiration for Boholano athletes.
His success has not only brought immense pride to his fellow Boholanos but has also elevated the province’s and the nation’s stature in the sports world.
The City Government of Tagbilaran rightfully honors such extraordinary athletic achievements, acknowledging their significant impact and the sense of pride they instill in the community.
