Bohol Light denies that politics was behind the disconnection of power connections.

Bohol Light is only aiming to provide safer connections to consumers according to spokesperson Cheryl Paga.

She said part of the requirements for the connection of electricity for urban poor associations is the certification of membership in said associations. She added by saying that membership should be duly certified by concerned urban poor association leaders and duly signed by the coordinators.

Paga said that it is beyond the control of Bohol Light what the requirements are of the leaders in order for a person to obtain the said certification.

Bohol Light is just making sure that all requirements including clearances from said associations are duly complied with before electric connection is done…

Paga said that requirements and clearances have to be complied with to ensure that once a household will get the approval of individual connection, said consumer will now settle their electricity bill directly to Bohol Light and not to or with any other entity

Paga added that the process is based on the Department of Energy guidelines to achieve 100 percent electrification.

In the case of the odd district, Paga said

Bohol Light coordinated with the local government unit in this undertaking without forgetting the right of every individual.

Bohol Light, according to Paga, is always looking for ways that will redound to the benefit of the consumers.

To remember, Bohol Light started to accept requirements for electricity connection from urban associations back in December 2025 following the conduct of information and education campaign in various barangays involved.

Bohol Light established close coordination and collaboration with association leaders and coordinators discussing the process to gain individual connections.

Bohol Light adapted the best practices in other power firms under Primelectric Holdings Inc., located in Negros Occidental and in Iloilo.

Bohol Light saw that there is a number of urban poor members that obtained power via flying connections where one meter is used to distribute power to other consumers, which is illegal under the law.

Bohol Light launched the program to help people to obtain legal connections individually.

As of Jan 30, 2026, around 139 informal settlers are already having their own power connections, she said.

Paga said that those who are connected via flying connections should become members of urban poor association in order to be included in the electrification program and enjoy their own power connection.
