Bohol Light confirms unscheduled power interruption

Bohol Light confirmed an unscheduled power interruption on July 1, 2026.

Corporate Communications Officer Sheryl Paga announced the outage over Newsmakers ug Uban Pa radio program.

The interruption started at 8:55 am and lasted until 11:52 am.

Feeder Delta was affected.

Paga said the outage was caused by a trip-off due to technical problems.

Upon inspection, personnel found that someone had tampered with the primary line near a mall.

Affected areas included Dampas and nearby areas extending to Cogon and parts of Booy.

Paga admitted the interruption had a big impact on power services.

She said there is a need for better coordination to prevent similar disruptions in the future.

Meanwhile, Bohol Light successfully held its “Kabalikat sa Kuryente” program on June 27, 2026 at the Collection Center.

Stakeholders and partners gathered to discuss cooperation for safer and more sustainable power services. The activity focused on coordination and information sharing to strengthen partnerships.

“Through cooperation, services will be boosted,” Paga said.

BWUI rolls out e-billing system for easier access

Bohol Water Utilities Inc., BWUI, has launched an e-billing system to make it easier for consumers to receive and access their water bills.

BWUI spokesperson Victor Tambis said the company is finding new ways to improve customer service and bill delivery.

Under the e-bill system, statements will be sent directly to a customer’s email.

There’s no need for physical delivery to the home.

Consumers can choose to receive their bill via email in addition to, or instead of, personal delivery.

Tambis said this is especially convenient for households that are often unoccupied.

To enroll, customers only need to submit a valid email address.

At present, BWUI is accepting Yahoo and Gmail accounts for e-billing.

The company is also working on an online system where customers can inquire about their accounts via the internet.

Another option is the text blast service. Customers can register their mobile numbers to receive billing information through SMS.

Meanwhile, the BWUI WASH caravan is currently in Barangay Tiptip. BWUI personnel are on site to help process applications for new water service connections.

Tambis urged interested residents to take advantage of the caravan to file their applications.

2 groups back TANOCAL medical mission in Bohol

Two US-based groups have pledged support for the medical mission spearheaded by the Tagbilaran Association of Northern California, or TANOCAL, set for February 2027.

TANOCAL President Arturo Romanos said the Filipino-American Medical Association, FAMA, and the St. Francis and Claire Foundation met with him on June 27, 2026 to discuss how they can help with the mission.

The highlight of the mission is a cataract surgery program aimed at helping residents with poor eyesight regain their vision.

Romanos said he already met with doctors affiliated with both groups to go over the details of the mission.

He was advised to schedule it on a weekend so more people can attend and benefit.

Doctors and medical personnel are expected to arrive on February 2.

The mission will run for three days, on February 5, 6, and 7, 2027 – an extension from the original two-day plan.

The number of participating doctors, nurses, and staff has also grown to 80 from the initial 50.

For cataract surgeries, the target was originally 100 patients. Romanos said the doctors are now willing to operate on up to 200 patients.

Day 1, February 5, will be for patient screening to determine who needs surgery.

The actual surgeries will be done on February 6 and 7.

Romanos was also advised to coordinate with the Lion’s Club for supplies of reading and corrective eyeglasses.

The Lion’s Club has since pledged support and will also provide additional doctors for the mission.

Romanos added that many of the visiting doctors and nurses have not been to Bohol before, so they also plan to visit the province’s tourism sites during their stay.

EMB to open Bohol satellite office

The Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) gave a positive response to the request to establish a satellite office in Bohol, according to Board Member Jamie Aumentado-Villamor.

According to Villamor, she attended a meeting with Bohol Governor Aris Aumentado and EMB Regional Director (RD) Atty. Edward Ang for the Provincial Government of Bohol’s request to establish an EMB office that will handle the processing and evaluation of permits and environmental clearances.

Villamor thanked RD Ang for his positive response and support for the initiative.

She said the EMB is ready to prepare the plan and coordinate with the Provincial Government of Bohol for the final steps in establishing the office in the province.

It is believed that the office will bring great benefits, especially in bringing government services closer to the people and in strengthening environmental protection programs and compliance with environmental regulations.

If realized, it will be faster and easier for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), local government units (LGUs), national government agencies (NGAs), and the private sector in Bohol to obtain the necessary permits and environmental clearances that previously had to be processed elsewhere.

Villamor added that they also plan to hold multi-sectoral consultations and a Protected Area Management Board (PAMB) briefing with the EMB so that all sectors can better understand the guidelines and compliance requirements related to environmental protection.

She said this is a major step toward delivering more efficient and accessible government service for Boholanos.

SP to probe ₱833-m irrigation project

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) of Bohol will formally conduct an investigation into the ₱833.37-million Mabini–Cayacay Small Reservoir Irrigation Project (SRIP) after alleged defects and rushed repairs were raised, with support from Governor Aris Aumentado.

During the regular session on June 30, led by Vice Governor Nicanor Besas, the issue was referred to the Committee of the Whole for investigation in aid of legislation following the privilege speeches of Board Members Nathaniel Binlod and Lucille Lagunay.

Binlod presented complaints of cracks, water leakages, and weak concrete in the canals just days after the inauguration on June 22, based also on a viral video and an ocular inspection in Mabini.

He said the deteriorating structure and limited irrigation of only 80 hectares out of the 530-hectare target were also observed.

Lagunay showed evidence of ongoing rehabilitation and asked whether the cause was a design defect, construction defect, or normal deterioration, and whether the repairs were covered by warranty or required additional government funding.

The request for investigation was earlier sent by Governor Aumentado on June 24, urging the SP to conduct an in aid of legislation inquiry into the project.

Officials called for accountability from the implementing agency and contractors, and suggested a joint inspection of government projects before acceptance and turnover.

The SRIP was built to irrigate 530 hectares and benefit 717 farmers in Mabini and Alicia.

The committee is expected to summon the NIA, contractors, and engineers for further investigation and recommendations.

Bohol PPO on full alert over in rallies

The Bohol Police Provincial Office (BPPO) is on full-alert status under the national security measures ordered by the Philippine National Police (PNP) following the rallies of the Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) that began Tuesday, June 30.

PLt. Col. Joseph Berondo, Public Information Officer of the Bohol PPO, confirmed that the full alert status started at 8:00 a.m. and covers all national support units, regional and provincial offices of the PNP nationwide.

According to Berondo, this is a standard operating procedure of the PNP to prevent possible untoward incidents and ensure public safety during the activities.

Despite the full alert status, Berondo said that the peace and order situation in the province of Bohol remains peaceful and normal.

He also added that, as of now, the BPPO has not monitored any Iglesia Ni Cristo rallies in Tagbilaran City and in other towns of the province.

Even with this, Berondo said all police in Bohol have been ordered to remain alert and ready to respond to any possible security concern while the full alert status is in effect.

Tagbilaran SP backs lower age for criminal liability

The City Government of Tagbilaran has officially taken a position in favor of amending Republic Act No. 9344 or the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act of 2006 to lower the age of exemption from criminal liability for Children in Conflict with the Law (CICL) from below 15 years old to below 10 years old.

The position was formalized through the approval of Proposed Resolution No. 200-26, Series of 2026 of the Sangguniang Panlungsod during the regular session yesterday, June 30.

The resolution urges the three congressmen of Bohol to file and support a law that will amend the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act of 2006.

The session was led by Vice Mayor Adam Relson Jala, while the resolution was sponsored and authored by Councilor Gemma Inting.

According to the council, their official position is based on concern that criminal groups are using minors below the current age of exemption to commit illegal activities because they cannot be held criminally liable under the current law.

The resolution also said that the proposed lowering of the exemption age aims to balance the protection of children’s rights with proper accountability for minors who have sufficient discernment to commit a crime, while rehabilitation, intervention, and restorative justice for CICL will still continue.

A copy of the resolution will be sent to Mayor Jane Yap, Governor Aris Aumentado, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Bohol, First District Representative John Geesnell Yap II, Second District Representative Maria Vanessa Cadorna-Aumentado, and Third District Representative Kristine Alexie Besas-Tutor for their appropriate action.

The city’s official position was made only a few days after the bloody shooting incident at a public high school in Tacloban City, where two minor suspects were involved in the killing of three students and the wounding of other victims.

The tragedy has once again sparked national discussion on Republic Act No. 9344, particularly on the age of exemption from criminal liability for minors.

Yap Reaffirms “No Tagbilaranon Left Behind” on City’s 60th Charter Day

1st District Representative John Geesnell “Baba” Yap II reaffirmed his promise of “Walay Tagbilaranon nga Pasagdan” or “No Tagbilaranon Left Behind” during Tagbilaran City’s 60th Charter Day celebration yesterday, July 1.

In his message, Yap thanked Tagbilaranons for the nine years they trusted him as city mayor, which he described as one of the greatest honors of his life.

He said the “Asenso Pa More” style of governance continues under Mayor Jane Yap and Vice Mayor Adam Relson Jala, focusing on the welfare of every Tagbilaranon family through programs in health, education, livelihood, and other social services.

Yap also assured that all government projects and programs aim to improve residents’ lives, while repeating his commitment to “No Tagbilaranon Left Behind.”

As Tagbilaran City enters its sixth decade as a chartered city, Yap urged residents to stay united to sustain growth toward a stronger, more progressive, and more caring city.

Yap reports first-year wins and unveils 2026–2028 roadmap on Tagbilaran’s 60th charter day

Tagbilaran City Mayor Jane Yap highlighted her administration’s major accomplishments in the first year of her second term through a 16-minute audio-visual presentation during the Diamond Jubilee Celebration Program for Tagbilaran City’s 60th Charter Day at Friendship Park on July 1.

In a presentation titled “A Story of Progress, Innovation, and People-Centered Governance,” Yap emphasized a “womb-to-tomb” approach to governance, with the welfare of every family at the center of the city’s programs and policies.

She also unveiled the Roadmap 2026–2028, built on five development pillars: Nurturing Families, Economic Prosperity, Green Transformation, Smart Infrastructure, and Excellence in Governance.

Yap cited the city’s response to the February 2026 oil crisis through the creation of the Tagbilaran City Crisis Management Committee.

The city provided ₱5.2 million in fuel subsidies to tricycle drivers and fisherfolk, while 87,672 passengers benefited from the Libreng Sakay program.

The local government also distributed ₱23.2 million in food vouchers to 27,106 households.

She also highlighted the “Kada Pamilya Adunay Diploma” program, where nearly 10,000 Tagbilaran City College students received free tuition and miscellaneous fees.

In addition, the city gave ₱10,000 tuition subsidies per semester to qualified students in other colleges and universities.

For Academic Year 2026, 2,617 scholars and 24 post-graduate teachers benefited from the program.

The mayor also noted the success of Saulog Tagbilaran 2026, which recorded ₱13 million in sales, and the city’s championship win at Sinulog sa Tagbilaran.

According to Yap, these accomplishments show the administration’s continued push for inclusive, innovative, and people-centered governance as Tagbilaran City marks its Diamond Jubilee.

Tagbilaran became a city on July 1, 1966, through Republic Act No. 4660, which legally created the Chartered City of Tagbilaran.

This year marks its Diamond Jubilee or 60th anniversary as a city.

DOST-PHIVOLCS installs 4th modern seismic station in Bohol; sea level monitoring also planned

The 4th seismic station in Bohol, and the 129th seismic station or earthquake monitoring system of the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, or DOST-PHIVOLCS, was officially inaugurated in Barangay San Roque, Sagbayan, on June 30, 2026.

This was followed by an information campaign: Earthquake and Earthquake Hazards Awareness and Preparedness, which discussed the importance of earthquake drills, earthquake hazards, survival before and during an earthquake, and preparations and recovery.

According to Arnold Melosantos, Section Head for Installation, Repair and Maintenance of the Philippine Seismic Network and Philippine Tsunami Network at DOST-PHIVOLCS, the equipment which is used to detect earthquakes is at the same level, or as modern as those used in other countries, like the U.S., Europe, and Japan.

It can record data from all stations in Bohol and across the Philippines.

Currently, there are four stations in Bohol.

These are the Tagbilaran seismic station, Talibon, Garcia Hernandez, and Sagbayan seismic station.

There are also plans to add more stations in the towns of Anda and Calape, Bohol, depending on approval and budget.

Another plan is to install an intensity meter in the town of Sagbayan.

PHIVOLCS’ current target is for Bohol’s seismic stations to be able to locate earthquakes, and they are also looking at installing a sea level monitoring station at the Port of Baclayon in the future for tsunami detection.

The purpose of these stations is to work together in detecting earthquakes and to reduce decision-making time.

Bohol will no longer have to wait for the national office’s decision, although the national office will still issue the warnings.

Driver hailed as hero after saving 17 passengers

A 46-year-old driver was considered a true hero after he prioritized the safety of his 17 passengers before he fully lost his life due to a heart attack.

The touching incident happened yesterday morning, June 29, in Brgy. Rizal, Batuan, while a passenger van was traveling to Tagbilaran.

Instead of losing control, the driver used his last strength and determination to slowly pull the vehicle to the side.

Because of his quick thinking and responsibility, all 17 passengers were saved from what could have been a greater tragedy when the van fell into a canal.

“Bisan pa sa iyang grabeng kahimtang, giuna gihapon niya ang among kinabuhi. Kung wala pa to niya nadaplin, basin mas dako pa nga disgrasya ang nahitabo kanamo,” (Even in his grave condition, he still prioritized our lives), one netizen said.

“If he had not pulled over, a bigger accident might have happened to us,” the netizen continued with gratitude.

The driver, a native of San Miguel, was declared to have died of cardiac arrest.

Despite the grief over his sudden passing, his courage and professionalism until the very last second of his life will remain an example of a true hero on the road.

The Tubigon Police Station arrested the Top 1 Most Wanted Person at the municipal level during an operation in the early part of July 1.

Within just 20 minutes, police also arrested another wanted person who was both charged with violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

At 12:10 a.m., the OPLAN Tracker Team of the Tubigon Police Station, together with the Provincial Intelligence Team of the Police Regional Office 7, arrested alyas “Santino”, 36 years old, single, and a resident of Barangay Centro, Tubigon.

Both suspects are now in the custody of the Tubigon Police Station while awaiting further court proceedings.

76 PNP, LTO-7 and CTMO personnel complete training

A total of 76 incoming deputized personnel from the Philippine National Police (PNP), Land Transportation Office (LTO) Region 7, and City Traffic Management Office (CTMO) of Tagbilaran City successfully completed the three-day Regional Deputation Training and Orientation Workshop held in Tagbilaran City, Bohol.

The training was led by the LTO-Region 7 together with the Bohol Police Provincial Office (BPPO), with the presence of LTO-7 Regional Director Atty. Wendel Dinglasan, ORD staff, and PTCOL Judymar Bonilla, Deputy Provincial Director for Administration.

Held at JJ’s Gumamela Hall in Barangay Poblacion II, the training emphasized strengthening coordination among traffic law enforcement units to improve road safety and discipline in Central Visayas.

On the last day, the participants underwent intensive sessions on the effects of alcohol, illegal drugs, and other substances on driving ability.

A representative from the Bohol Provincial Health Unit, Nurse Dan Blyke Bantugan, also lectured on life-saving techniques and basic first aid.

The participants also joined a workshop and discussion on Republic Act No. 10586 or the Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act of 2013, which highlighted proper enforcement procedures and the responsibility to ensure safe roads for motorists and pedestrians.

US-based Boholano lawyer urges stricter age verification using national ID to protect minors from online gaming abuse

A US-based Boholano lawyer is calling for stricter age verification systems to protect minors from abuse on online gaming platforms.

Glen Hubahib said a national ID could help address the problem, as it can be used to verify a user’s age before they access certain platforms.

He was reacting to reports linking games like Gorebox and Roblox to alleged violent content involving minors.

Unlike in the United States, where a Social Security Number is required for most transactions, Hubahib noted that the Philippines does not have a universal identification system.

Social Security is optional and mostly limited to workers, while the PhilSys National ID remains optional and many applicants have yet to receive their physical cards.

“There should be a way to verify age in order to filter minors from using platforms prone to abuse,” Hubahib said.

He also questioned intelligence and risk assessments on school violence, citing the recent school shooting in Tacloban City.

He said authorities need to identify red flags early to prevent potential dangers.

Hubahib further criticized some laws that he said were passed without thorough study.

He pointed to the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act, which exempts children below 15 from criminal liability, and allows those under 18 to be tried in court only if they acted with discernment.

He claimed that some minors are aware of these exemptions and use them to avoid accountability, regardless of the severity of the offense.

“This emboldens minors to commit crimes,” he said.

Hubahib added that while the Philippines often adopts legislation from progressive countries, enforcement here has not kept up to the same standard.

Mayor Lopez unveils governance agenda for Loon

Mayor Cesar Tomas “Yul” Lopez has outlined his priority agenda for Loon, with fiscal discipline and tourism development leading the list.

In an interview with Ardy Araneta-Batoy, Lopez said his number one focus is fiscal discipline while also exploring new revenue-generating ventures for the municipality.

A big part of that plan is tourism. Lopez said Loon is being positioned as an alternative dive destination to Panglao, with Cabilao Island eyed as the centerpiece.

“We want to make Loon a more affordable alternative to Panglao,” Lopez said.

He noted plans to develop Cabilao Island’s dive sites to attract more visitors.

On basic services, Lopez credited former Cong. Edgar Chatto for his role in bringing fresh water supply to Cabilao.

The local government is now working to complete the pipeline network to ensure water reaches more households on the island.

Lopez also lauded Chatto for helping rebuild the Loon Church, which was damaged by the 2013 earthquake.

In healthcare, Lopez highlighted improvements at the Natalio Castillo Sr. Memorial Hospital, which is now better equipped and has an operating dialysis center.

He also announced a new program focused on student mental health.

Trained personnel will be made available to help students who may be struggling.

Arcamo wants the best for Bohol

Board Member Benjie Arcamo said he is pushing back against a proposal to allow hybrid betting in cockpits because he only wants what’s best for Bohol.

Arcamo mentioned the existing provincial ordinance that banned machine betting in Bohol cockpits.

Now, there’s a move to amend that ordinance and reintroduce hybrid betting.

He tried to stop the new proposal early but was outvoted in the Provincial Board.

Arcamo said he stands firm by his original ordinance.

He pointed out that most operators of machine betting are from outside Bohol, which means revenue would flow out of the province instead of staying local.

“I want to keep cockpit revenue within Bohol,” Arcamo said.

He also noted that machine betting has changed the culture of cockfighting aficionados in the province.

Despite knowing he could be outvoted again, Arcamo vowed to continue fighting what he called a lone battle for Bohol’s interest.

Evasco says no plans to run for Bohol governor

Former Cabinet Secretary Leoncio “Jun” Evasco Jr. has clarified that he has no plans or interest in running for governor of Bohol in the upcoming election.

In a statement, Evasco said he has already spent a long time in public service and believes the opportunity to lead the province should now go to younger leaders with a proven track record of service, integrity and leadership skills.

He said he wants to see Bohol’s next leader genuinely committed to helping the poor and marginalized ahead of personal interest.

Although he no longer resides in Bohol full time, Evasco thanked Boholanos who have continued to express their trust in him and urged him to run for governor.

He said he considers their trust in his abilities a debt of gratitude and thanked God for it.

Evasco also responded to comments and social media posts speculating about a possible candidacy.

Without naming anyone, he said he could not understand why a lawyer continued to attack him even though he had not announced any intention to run or interfered with anyone.

He said that if whoever was behind the posts pushing him to run for governor felt insecure about it, he did not understand why they would attack him when he had not expressed any such desire and had not interfered with them either.

Evasco suggested that if the attacks were merely the product of emotion or political heat, they should be ignored. But he said that if someone was being paid to discredit him, it would only expose an unethical form of political attack.

He addressed the lawyer directly, advising him to cool off if his attacks were simply driven by political heat. However, Evasco said that if the attacks were the result of being paid, the lawyer would only be confirming that he was the kind of media figure who could be bought in Bohol, calling this a disgrace to Bohol media.

He added that the lawyer’s preferred candidate in a past election won only because of political machinery.

Evasco also questioned why the lawyer kept attacking him over claims that the Marcos administration had no plans to push through with the 2028 elections, saying this exposed the lawyer’s true motives.

Evasco ran for Bohol governor in the 2019 election but lost to his rival, former governor and now Murang Kuryente Partylist Rep. Arthur Yap.

Tagbilaran councilor urges LGUs to help publicize strict enforcement of helmet ordinance

City Councilor Fausto “Bebot” Budlong has called on local government units across Bohol to help inform the public about the strict enforcement of Tagbilaran City’s motorcycle helmet ordinance, set to begin Aug. 1, 2026.

Budlong made the appeal during a joint meeting of the Provincial Peace and Order Council and the Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Council on June 29.

Budlong said the Tagbilaran City Police Station and the City Traffic Management Office have intensified their information campaign to ensure motorists understand the ordinance’s requirements.

He urged mayors and local officials throughout Bohol to spread the information, particularly to motorists who regularly enter Tagbilaran City, to help them avoid arrest and penalties once strict enforcement begins.

Under City Ordinance No. C-386, Series of 2025, all motorcycle riders and back riders are required to wear DTI-certified helmets bearing a Philippine Standard mark or ICC sticker. Both full-face and half-face helmets are allowed, provided they carry the required certification.

“Nut shell” helmets and other substandard protective gear are prohibited. Violators face fines of up to 5,000 pesos, depending on the court’s ruling.

Budlong said strict enforcement of the ordinance is intended to help reduce the rising number of motorcycle-related accidents in Tagbilaran City.

The ordinance applies only to motorcycles and does not cover tricycles, tricabs, or motorelas.

Youth leaders weigh in on possible mobile phone ban for minors

Youth leaders shared their views on a possible ban on mobile phone use among minors.

Kabataan for Change stalwarts Ivy Betalmos and Carl Hinlo reacted to the issue, pointing out that the grooming of suspects in the Tacloban shootout may have been carried out using mobile phones.

Betalmos said mobile phones are important when used for school work.

She added that phone use can help young people stay aware of what’s happening in the world through news and information.

However, she noted this can also expose youth to fake news, which they may absorb if they cannot properly fact-check.

“Uncontrolled use may lead to distractions,” Hinlo said.

Betalmos also said some youth may self-diagnose mental health issues just because they read about them on their phones.

“A total ban will make communication more difficult,” Hinlo said.

Both leaders are pushing for a proper policy on mobile phone use, especially in schools.

Betalmos said authorities need to balance the issue before deciding whether to push for a total ban or not.

Bohol on heightened alert vs African swine fever after cases in Negros Occidental

The Province of Bohol is now on heightened alert against African Swine Fever (ASF) after cases of the swine disease were reported in the neighboring province of Negros Occidental.

According to Dr. Medalyn Paman, head of the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian (OPV), Governor Erico Aristotle “Aris” Aumentado is set to issue an Executive Order to strengthen measures preventing ASF from entering the province.

It was reported that more than 500 pigs have died in Negros Occidental due to ASF, prompting Bohol to tighten monitoring of live animals and pork-related products entering the province.

Despite this, Paman clarified that there will be no total ban on the entry of live pigs from other provinces.

Instead, strict enforcement of regulations and biosecurity measures will continue in accordance with provincial ordinances and policies.

She said all shipments of pigs must have complete and valid documents and will undergo inspection to ensure that animals entering Bohol are free from ASF risks.

Based on OPV data, more than 1,000 pigs typically enter Bohol from Negros, which is why authorities have intensified monitoring and coordination at ports and checkpoints to prevent possible entry of the disease.

The OPV is also continuing to urge farmers and hog raisers to implement strict biosecurity protocols and to immediately report any unusual deaths or symptoms in their pigs to prevent possible spread of ASF in the province.

A police officer assigned to the Ubay Municipal Police Station is facing an attempted murder charge after allegedly shooting a 37-year-old man in Barangay Lusong, Buenavista, past 4:00 AM on June 30.

According to Buenavista Police Station chief PCapt. Waldo Batad, the 33-year-old suspect, a Patrolman and resident of Talibon, is currently detained and has been charged criminally.

In the initial investigation, the officer surrendered to the Buenavista Police Station and claimed that the victim shot at him first, forcing him to return fire with his 9mm service firearm.

However, in a follow-up investigation, police found that the victim had no weapon and there was no evidence that he fired a gun.

Capt. Batad said only the suspect had a firearm during the incident.

Based on the investigation, the officer and his younger brother were riding a motorcycle and went to the victim’s house to look for him.

Before the shooting, the officer also questioned some youths in the area.

“There were youths the officer encountered because they did not answer properly when questioned,” Capt. Batad said.

When the victim opened the door of his house, the suspect’s brother said “dia ra,” or “here he is,” prompting the officer to immediately shoot the victim four times.

After the shooting, the suspect and his brother quickly fled the area.

The victim sustained a knee wound but survived the incident.

A 12-year-old boy was also injured after being hit in the calf by a bullet during the shooting.

Capt. Batad added that their investigation found that the suspect officer was intoxicated at the time of the incident.

Sangguniang panlalawigan to probe Mabini-Cayacay irrigation project implementation

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) of Bohol will investigate the controversial implementation of the Mabini-Cayacay Irrigation Project in Abaca, Mabini, Bohol due to alleged errors in its construction sequence.

Board Member Binlod, chairman of the SP Committee on Public Works and Highways, visited the barangays covered by the project last week to inspect its condition.

He is expected to deliver a privilege speech during the SP’s regular session this Tuesday, to be presided over by Vice Governor Nicanor Besas.

Governor Aris Aumentado earlier expressed surprise over the way the project was carried out, describing it as “wrong in sequence.”

According to the governor, the lateral irrigation canals were built before the main dam, which is why the canals have not been used since the project began in 2018 under the administration of former Governor Art Yap.

Because of the long period of non-use, the canals have deteriorated due to weather exposure and poor construction quality, and will now require additional funding for repairs.

Although the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) clarified that the project was funded through a multi-year budget, the governor maintained that it would have been more practical and cost-efficient if the main dam had been completed first.

This issue came up just days after President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. formally inaugurated the project during his second visit to Bohol on June 22, 2026.

No road warning sign?

Motorist’s safety at Benliw-Biabas bridge urged

Don’t wait until there’s an accident,’ says a netizen.

A netizen is now calling on the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and local officials of Ubay town to give urgent attention to the dangerous condition of the bridge connecting Barangay Benliw and Barangay Biabas.

In one of his social media posts, Marlon Unajan expressed his great concern because the problem has persisted for a long time, yet no concrete action has been taken by the concerned government agencies so far.

Unajan emphasized the importance of the bridge, which serves as one of the main thoroughfares for residents in the area.

Because of this, he strongly urged the installation of warning signs to prevent any accidents.

According to him, “If possible, please put up ‘Caution Road Sign’ or warning signs to alert motorists and passersby. It will be too difficult if we wait until someone gets into an accident before we take action.”

Aside from DPWH Ubay, Unajan also called on local government officials and barangay officials to work together to ensure public safety.

He said the infrastructure should not be neglected because motorists’ lives are at stake.

Residents in the area are hoping that authorities will heed this plea before it’s too late.

Oil prices rise again amid US-IRAN tensions

Global oil prices rose again following new attacks between the United States and Iran last week.

Brent crude, the international benchmark for oil prices, increased by 0.9 percent to reach $73.21 per barrel yesterday.

According to analysts, the market is concerned that normal shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil transit routes, could be disrupted again.

Fabien Yip, market analyst at IG, said the market had quickly placed its confidence in the possibility of peace, but the latest attacks and the incident involving a commercial vessel showed that risks in the region remain.

Because of this, Asian stock markets showed mixed performance.

Markets in Hong Kong and Taiwan rose, while indices in Japan and South Korea declined, especially among companies involved in artificial intelligence (AI) and semiconductors.

The US Central Command said it launched airstrikes against Iran in response to Tehran’s alleged attacks on two commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran responded by launching missiles and drones targeting US military facilities in Bahrain and Kuwait.

Despite the ongoing tensions, there are reports that Washington and Tehran have agreed to a temporary halt in attacks and to continue negotiations.

According to Axios, both sides are scheduled to meet in Doha, Qatar today, though Iran has not yet confirmed it.
