El Niño Dries Bohol Rice Fields, Cloud Seeding Sought
Rice fields in Bohol have started to dry up, especially in rainfed areas, due to the effects of El Niño worsened by the Southwest Monsoon, according to Assistant Provincial Agriculturist Larry M. Pamugas.
Newly planted rice and crops in the vegetative stage are affected, threatening the livelihood of local farmers. The Provincial Government of Bohol (PGBh) aims to conduct Cloud Seeding Operations (CSO) as soon as possible.
While the provincial government allocated ₱5 million for the operations through the PDRRMO, additional funding is being requested from the Bureau of Soils and Water Management (BSWM) of the Department of Agriculture (DA), as El Niño is expected to continue until the first quarter of next year. Currently, only 34.72% (18,707 hectares) of the province’s total 53,887.06 hectares of rice fields have been planted.
Gov. Aumentado Seeks More Police Teams To Fight Drugs In Bohol
Bohol Governor Erico Aristotle “Aris” Aumentado requested additional police teams from the Police Regional Office 7 (PRO7) to help intensify the crackdown on illegal drugs, particularly shabu, in the province.
The governor noted that while drug issues are spreading, the number of assigned police officers has remained unchanged. He emphasized the need for a specialized team, closer coordination, and faster information-sharing between police intelligence units and other law enforcement agencies to effectively maintain peace and order.
Bohol Dengue Deaths Hit 10
Dengue deaths in Bohol have risen to 10 from January 1 to August 8, 2026, up from four during the same period last year, even as overall cases stood at 1,363, according to the Provincial Health Office (PHO). The highest number of cases were recorded in Talibon, Tagbilaran City, Ubay, Getafe, and Tubigon, with Talibon recording 163 cases and four deaths alone.
Leonidas Saniel, PHO Dengue Program Coordinator, urged the public to seek early consultation and follow the 5’S Strategy against dengue. A poseur buyer purchased a sachet of suspected shabu for ₱1,000, and four additional sachets were recovered during a body search. Motorist Critical After Hit by Drunk Driver in Tubigon
A motorist from Buenavista is in critical condition after his motorcycle was struck by an oncoming swerving motorcycle driven by an allegedly intoxicated driver in Barangay Cawayanan, Tubigon on Friday, August 21, 2026.
The victim was returning home from a CCTV installation job in Tagbilaran City when the crash occurred. While the victim sustained severe injuries, his backrider and the suspect driver only sustained minor injuries. The suspect is in the custody of the Tubigon Police Station facing potential charges.
BPIA Operator Invests ₱4.53 Billion for Airport Modernization
Aboitiz InfraCapital Bohol Airport Corp. (ABAC), operator of Bohol-Panglao International Airport (BPIA), has allocated ₱4.53 billion for long-term airport modernization under a 30-year public-private partnership concession.
Upgrades include restoring elevators, repairing carousel systems, conducting maintenance on boarding bridges, testing UPS systems, adding terminal seating, expanding signage, and upgrading facilities to accommodate larger aircraft like the Airbus A330. Bohol Contractors Alleging ‘Lutong Macau’ Bidding in DPWH Projects
Engr. Nilo Sarigumba, president of the Association of Bohol Construction Companies Inc. (ABCCI), alleged systematic corruption and “Lutong Macau” bidding practices within DPWH infrastructure projects across Bohol’s three engineering districts. ABCCI reported that despite 52 contractors having over 15% negative slippage as of July 31, 2026, at least 12 still received new contracts starting in March. The group has petitioned DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon for a full review of 2026 project biddings and is preparing criminal and administrative complaints with the Office of the Ombudsman against the three DPWH-Bohol district engineers and their Bids and Awards Committees.
Bohol turns over P5M in aid to earthquake-hit South Cotabato, Sarangani and GenSan
The Provincial Government of Bohol has turned over a total of P5 million in financial assistance to areas in Mindanao affected by the powerful earthquake in June, to support their rehabilitation and recovery efforts.
Bohol Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) head Anthony Damalerio said the assistance was extended to South Cotabato, Sarangani province and General Santos City.
Damalerio represented Aumentado in turning over the financial aid to the areas.
Atty. Renette Bergado, provincial administrator of South Cotabato, received ₱1.5 million on behalf of Gov. Reynaldo S. Tamayo. She was joined in receiving the aid by Chief of Staff Emily Jalandoni Daban and Executive Assistant Hernanie Villanueva.
Another ₱1.5 million was turned over to Sarangani Gov. Roel Pacquiao to support the province’s rehabilitation and recovery efforts following the June earthquake.
Meanwhile, ₱2 million in financial assistance was given to General Santos City Mayor Lorelie G. Pacquiao.
Damalerio said the assistance reflects Bohol’s support and solidarity with communities still recovering from the earthquake’s impact.
He also noted that South Cotabato, Sarangani and General Santos City were among the areas that helped Bohol after it was struck by a magnitude 7.2 earthquake in October 2013.
The financial assistance will be used by the recipient local government units for rehabilitation and recovery activities for communities affected by the earthquake.
Tagbilaran council reviews school security, guards’ firearms policy
The Tagbilaran City Council reviewed the current security situation in the city’s public and private schools during a joint committee meeting Monday, Aug. 24, including policies on security guards carrying firearms inside campuses.
The meeting was led by the Committee on Education, chaired by Councilor Jose Floro Ringca, and the Committee on Peace, Public Order and Safety, chaired by Councilor Fausto “Bebot” Budlong.
Among the main topics was a proposed resolution urging a review of Department of Education Memorandum Order No. 6, Series of 2026, or the “Guidelines on Ensuring a Safe and Motivating Learning Environment,” particularly its provision on school security personnel carrying firearms.
Attending the consultation were Tagbilaran City Police Chief Lt. Col. Joey Bicoy; a representative of DepEd City Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Wilfreda Bongalos; representatives of the Tagbilaran City People’s Council; school officials; city officials; youth representatives; and barangay leaders.
City Councilors Edi Borja, Charles Cabalit and Gemma Inting also attended the committee meeting.
The council asked stakeholders for suggestions to strengthen school security while maintaining a safe and conducive learning environment for students.
The council is expected to use the recommendations from the committee meeting as the basis for further steps and policies on school security, which may be presented during a regular session of the Sangguniang Panlungsod.
TCC to implement transparent bag policy starting Sept. 14
Tagbilaran City College (TCC) will implement a mandatory transparent bag policy for all students starting Sept. 14, 2026 as an added security measure on campus.
The policy was issued through Memorandum Order No. 155, Series of 2026, dated Aug. 20.
Under the order, all enrolled students are required to use clear or transparent bags when entering and staying on campus.
The policy aims to prevent firearms, explosives and other weapons from entering the campus and to speed up inspections by security personnel.
The order also strictly prohibits students from carrying cutters, utility knives, scissors, blades, sharp metal objects and other unauthorized weapons.
TCC urged students to prepare transparent bags before the policy takes effect to avoid delays entering the campus.
The administration said the policy is a preventive measure to strengthen campus security and peace, particularly following shooting incidents at schools in Zamboanga City and Tacloban City.
TCC also reminded students, faculty and staff that “safety is a shared responsibility” and urged everyone to cooperate with security personnel in enforcing the new policy.
Bohol food supply at risk from El Niño as planting drops
Rice and corn production, along with the province’s food supply, are at risk in Bohol due to prolonged low rainfall that has slowed planting and lowered water levels at the province’s irrigation dams.
Assistant Provincial Agriculturist Dr. Larry Pamugas said harvests and farmers’ income could decline because of the prolonged dry spell, and warned the impact on food security could worsen if El Niño persists.
According to data from the Office of the Provincial Agriculture, only 12,798 hectares, or 23.76% of Bohol’s 53,884.72-hectare rice area, had been planted as of July, leaving 76.24% of the rice area unplanted.
For corn, only 1,011.66 hectares, or 16.38% of the potential corn area, had been planted as of June.
Meanwhile, the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) reported continuing declines in water levels at irrigation dams and low irrigation levels at Capayas, Talibon, Benliw and Ilaya.
Officials said that if the lack of rain continues, planting could be delayed further, production could decline, and farmers’ income and the province’s food supply could be affected.
The Bureau of Soils and Water Management (BSWM) has allotted P4.239 million for 36 flight hours of cloud seeding in Bohol, but officials said the funding may not be enough if dry conditions persist.
Because of this, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan Committee on Agriculture is pushing for a joint area assessment and cloud-seeding operations to help boost rainfall and water supply for agriculture.
The committee also recommended seeking additional funding for cloud-seeding operations in 2026 and 2027 to help prevent a bigger impact from El Niño on rice and corn production, irrigation and food security in Bohol.
Woman stabbed in Dagohoy, in critical condition
A woman was in critical condition after she was stabbed by her neighbor during an argument in Barangay La Esperanza, Dagohoy, at about 6 p.m. Sunday.
The victim was identified as Alyas Kiring, a resident of the area.
The suspect, identified as Alyas Meo, 59, married, is also a neighbor of the victim.
According to the Dagohoy Municipal Police Station, the suspect was drunk and walking home when he passed by the victim’s house, saw her and confronted her.
Police said the suspect accused the victim of poisoning his pet dog.
According to the suspect’s allegation, the dog was believed to have eaten eggs laid by the victim’s chickens.
The argument escalated until the suspect suddenly stabbed the victim with a knife used for butchering pigs.
The victim was hit in the stomach area, affecting her liver, leaving her in critical condition.
The suspect surrendered to police who responded to the incident.
The Dagohoy police said they are preparing appropriate charges against the suspect.
Bohol drug-cleared barangays rise to 765, clearance rate hits 68.98%
The number of drug-cleared and drug-unaffected barangays in Bohol has risen to 765 after seven more barangays in Loay were added to the list, pushing the province’s drug-clearance rate to 68.98%.
The Bohol Police Provincial Office (BPPO) announced the additional drug-cleared barangays during an Aug. 18 press briefing led by Provincial Director Col. Patricio Degay Jr.
BPPO public information officer Maj. Joseph Lopena said the Regional Oversight Committee approved the seven barangays under the Barangay Drug Clearing Program (BDCP) during deliberations on Aug. 14.
The barangays are Botoc Occidental, Calvario, Palo, Tocdog Dacu, Tangcasan Norte, Tayong Oriental and Tayong Occidental.
Four of them — Botoc Occidental, Calvario, Palo and Tocdog Dacu — were previously classified as moderately affected, while Tangcasan Norte, Tayong Oriental and Tayong Occidental were classified as slightly affected.
With the addition, the number of cleared and unaffected barangays in Bohol rose from 758 to 765 out of the province’s 1,109 total barangays.
Of the 765 cleared and unaffected barangays, 748 are drug-cleared — comprising 329 formerly moderately affected and 419 formerly slightly affected barangays — while 17 are classified as unaffected.
Meanwhile, the number of barangays still classified as drug-affected fell from 351 to 344, consisting of 171 moderately affected and 173 slightly affected barangays.
The BPPO, under Degay, said it will continue coordinating with local government units and other law enforcement agencies to clear the remaining drug-affected communities and prevent the return of illegal drug activity in barangays that have already achieved drug-cleared status.
Authorities said they will continue monitoring cleared barangays to ensure they maintain their status under the BDCP.
Farmer arrested in Ubay drug bust
A man was arrested after he was caught selling illegal drugs during a buy-bust operation in Purok 2, Barangay Hambabauran, Ubay, early Tuesday morning.
The suspect was identified as Whardee Cresencio y Balonga, 33, married, a farmer and a resident of the area.
He allegedly sold a small plastic sachet containing suspected shabu worth 500 pesos to a police poseur-buyer.
Police recovered two more small sachets of suspected illegal drugs from the suspect’s possession.
The seized illegal drugs weighed an estimated 4.73 grams with an estimated street value of 32,164 pesos, more or less.
The inventory of the seized items was witnessed by two barangay officials and members of the local media.
The anti-illegal drug operation, conducted in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and with the use of an authority to operate, was carried out by members of the Ubay Municipal Police Station’s Municipal Drug Enforcement Team led by Maj. Neon Francis B. Alvarez, chief of police.

Bohol declares dengue outbreak as cases rise to 1,696
Governor Aris Aumentado declared a dengue outbreak in the entire province of Bohol after 1,696 cases were recorded from January 1 to August 22, 2026, with the town of Talibon having the highest number of cases at 186, followed by Tagbilaran City, Ubay, Getafe, and Tubigon.
The formal declaration was made based on the recommendation of the Provincial Health Board under Provincial Health Officer Dr. Fruserma Mary Uy after cases exceeded the epidemic threshold for three consecutive weeks and the province’s case fatality rate increased.
Through this declaration and the expected executive order, all response mechanisms from the provincial level down to the barangays will be activated, while the use of emergency funds for the purchase of needed medical supplies such as diagnostic kits and IV fluids is also allowed.
Officials also called on the public to clean mosquito breeding sites and to seek medical consultation immediately if they experience symptoms of the disease.
Tagbilaran allocates ₱5 million fund for tipping fee at Albur sanitary landfill
The City of Tagbilaran will pay ₱400,000 per month for the tipping fee for disposing of its garbage at the Albur Cluster Sanitary Landfill.
According to Lito Taladua, head of the Solid Waste Management Office, ₱5 million in funds was allocated for this payment annually amid the continued increase in garbage due to the growth of businesses and households in the city.
About 120,000 tons of garbage will be disposed of in Albur every month, and this is expected to rise further during fiesta season and Christmas.
To improve garbage collection using their seven garbage trucks, the City Government will also add two new garbage compactors this year.
PNP Bohol cyber team continues to track school shooting threats
The PNP Bohol Cyber Response team is continuing to follow up on cases of shooting threats in schools in the province of Bohol.
Police Captain Aileen Marie Remedio, head of the PNP-Bohol Cyber Response Team, who was interviewed by a media outlet on August 25, 2026, said that out of 4 cases of shooting threats in schools, 1 has already been solved, with the suspect identified as a young man in the town of San Miguel.
The remaining 3 cases are the focus of a deeper investigation.
Remedio acknowledged that solving shooting and bombing threats is a big challenge because they still need to coordinate with Meta and will also need a court warrant.
Remedio urged the public not to repost on social media to avoid fear and to prevent misinformation from unverified information.

DPWH 2nd district denies ‘lutong macaw’ bidding allegations
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) 2nd District Engineering Office denied the allegation of the Association of Construction Companies Inc. that there is “lutong macaw” in the bidding of government projects and that some contractors continue to be awarded projects even with major negative slippage.
In an interview with a media outlet, District Engineer Fernando Talagsa explained that there is no contractor in his district with 15 percent negative slippage that was awarded a contract.
According to Talagsa, their office strictly follows the proper procurement process under Republic Act 12009 or the New Government Procurement Act, which replaced RA 9184.
He said that projects are only given to qualified contractors based on the established bidding process and the provisions of the law.
Talagsa also emphasized that there is no favored contractor in their district and that after every bidding, their office submits the results to the DPWH Central Office.
Meanwhile, DPWH 1st District Engineer John Paul Gascon has not yet given a response when asked for comment regarding the allegation.
Construction worker suffers broken leg in Dauis motorcycle crash
A construction worker suffered a broken leg after the motorcycle he was riding crashed into a van that suddenly turned and stopped in the middle of the road in Barangay Dao, Dauis, Bohol, past 6:00 in the morning, Monday, August 24.
The victim was on his way to Panglao to work as a construction worker when the accident happened.
According to the victim, while he was riding his motorcycle and had reached Barangay Dao, the van suddenly turned and stopped in the middle of the road.
“Pagliko niya, mihunong pa gyud sa tunga,” said the victim.
Because of the van’s sudden stop, he could no longer control his motorcycle and directly crashed into the vehicle.
The victim also admitted that he was driving fast at the time because he was in a hurry so he would not be late for work.
He suffered a broken leg and was taken to the hospital for proper treatment.
Gasoline prices expected to drop in Bohol next week
Prices of diesel, gasoline and kerosene in Bohol are expected to drop next week after crude oil prices declined in the world market.
From August 24 to 26, the price of crude in the international market decreased by P3.50 per liter for diesel, P1.10 for gasoline and P3.50 for kerosene.
In the Philippines, petroleum prices rose for two consecutive weeks, reaching a total of P6.20 per liter for diesel, P3.60 for gasoline and P6 for kerosene.
The decline in world crude oil prices is expected to lead to a rollback in local petroleum prices, including in Bohol.
The oil industry is also continuing to monitor the impact of the new economic sanctions against Iran and its allies, which could affect crude prices in the coming days.
Gov. Aumentado urges youth to join dairy industry

According to him, a new generation of dairy farmers and professionals is needed to guide the industry toward a stronger and more sustainable future.
The governor also encouraged the expansion of dairy production and the addition of more farmers, business owners and organizations to join the industry to meet future demand.
Aumentado said the Provincial Government is ready to provide support, while he also asked for continued assistance and funding from the National Government for projects that will strengthen the dairy sector.
The goal of the province is to become the “Dairy Capital of the Visayas,” while using the dairy industry as an additional source of livelihood and as part of climate-smart agriculture in Bohol.
Quick response by firefighters prevented fire from spreading in Calape
Firefighters from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) prevented the spread of a fire in a house in Barangay Bonbon, Calape on August 26.
According to Bohol Provincial Fire Marshal FSupt. Raul Bustaliño, the Calape Fire Station responded just one minute after the report was received at 3:15 in the afternoon.
The incident was raised to the first alarm at 3:16 and to the second alarm at 3:19 in the afternoon while firefighters put out the blaze.
One house owned by Gladys Uy Redulla was burned while one firefighter, SFO2 Joseph P. Piodos, was injured during the operation.
Bustaliño added that firefighters from Calape, Tubigon and Loon helped in the firefighting operation, along with the Calape emergency ambulance and police.
No other injuries or deaths were reported in the incident.
The BFP is still determining the cause of the fire and the amount of damage.
21 dengue deaths in Bohol, mostly kids
Health officials raised the alarm in the province of Bohol after 21 deaths were recorded out of 1,883 total dengue cases from January 4 to August 22, 2026, where most of the victims were a few months old to 10 years old and there were also adults.
The main cause of these cases is the delay in seeking consultation at hospitals.
In the Capitol Reports held today, August 28, 2026, Dr. Jeia Pondoc from the Tagbilaran City Health Office said that the “4S strategy” continues to be implemented and that the Action Barangay Kontra Dengue (ABKD) task force is being carried out at the barangay level.
As of now, Tagbilaran City has recorded 151 dengue cases.
Among those who died was a 20 year old who came from outside the city but worked in Tagbilaran, who showed negative symptoms of dengue.
There is an ongoing city ordinance in the city where households that are found to be violating cleanliness and keeping mosquito breeding sites can be given citation tickets.
Dr. Em Uy, head of the PHO, also explained that even though there was a patient who followed early consultation on “Day Zero,” the patient still died from dengue.
Dr. Uy added that the situation cannot be blamed on the government because the government has not lacked in providing information and education, and that the big responsibility and accountability really lies with each household.
Mr. Niel John Oclarit, RN, Development Management Officer IV Team Leader of the Provincial DOH Office Bohol, also clarified that fogging through smoke is not recommended by the Department of Health (DOH) as a solution against mosquitoes.
Regarding the question of why there is a dengue outbreak even amid El Niño, experts explained that El Niño does not mean there is no rain. Small rains leave water in containers, and even just 5ml of water is enough to become a home and breeding site for mosquitoes.
Because of the storing and reserving of water by people during drought, all containers really need to be properly covered.
Through research by, it was found from public health specialists from the University of the Philippines (UP) such as Dr. Lilian Delas Llagas that the high temperature brought by hot weather speeds up the lifecycle of mosquitoes. Their eggs hatch more quickly, and the virus inside the mosquito’s body also develops faster (extrinsic incubation period).
As a new approach in fighting the disease, the PHO has already coordinated with the DOH so that the RT-PCR machines previously used for COVID-19 will be upgraded and used again for faster and more accurate testing of dengue cases in the province.
Steering malfunction causes truck accident in Carmen
The two parties have already settled after the reported steering malfunction of a cargo truck caused it to crash into a private vehicle on the national highway in Barangay El Progreso, Carmen, past 1:00 in the afternoon this Friday.
According to PMSgt. Elmer Tabio of the Carmen Police Station, the two vehicles were traveling in opposite directions but upon reaching the curved portion of the road, the driver of the truck loaded with palm seeds lost control due to the reported malfunction of its steering.
It hit the oncoming black Toyota Avanza, causing the private vehicle to block the road and for its body to be torn off due to the strong impact, while the truck also went through toward a nearby house beside the road.
Despite the accident, only minor injuries were sustained by the passengers of the two vehicular units.
Because of this, the incident was quickly resolved when the two parties faced each other and immediately came to an agreement regarding the accident.
Blue Port Facility project by world bank and BFAR presented to Bohol province
A project proposal for the construction of a big Blue Port Facility in the province of Bohol was formally presented, an initiative that will be funded by the World Bank under the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Fisheries and Coastal Resiliency (FishCoRe) project.
The presentation was led by the new Officer-in-Charge of the Bohol Provincial Fishery Office (PFO) – BFAR Region VII, Gaymelo Lopez, together with Assistant Technical Coordinator Pamela Sulcano and Fisheries Infrastructure Engineer Cindy Leah Samijon, in collaboration with officials from the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA) with the help of Liza Quirog and Mary Queen Atup, as well as Atty. Alona Cristal from the Provincial Legal Office (PLO).
According to the project concept, it will include the construction of a Landing and Trading Area, Fish Processing Center, Cold Storage and Ice-Making Facilities, Bagsakan Center, Fisheries Training Center, Pasalubong Center, Community Enterprise Facilities, and Sustainable Coastal Resource Management Infrastructure to improve post-harvest handling and increase fisheries and jobs in the state.
The proposal was presented to Governor Erico Aris Aumentado who expressed his full support for this big project for the development of coastal communities in Bohol.
New provincial DOH office in Bohol opens at capitol annex
The new Provincial Department of Health Office (PDOHO) at the Provincial Capitol Annex Building, J.A. Clarin Street in this city, was formally turned over and inaugurated through a ceremonial ribbon cutting and blessing.
The event was attended by 2nd District Congresswoman Maria Vanessa Aumentado, Department of Health (DOH) Region 7 Director Dr. Joshua Brillantes and OIC DMO V of PDOHO Bohol Ruth Del Prado, with the support of Fr. Peru Dayag who blessed the facility.
Also present during the ceremony were Dr. Van Phillip Baton, Dr. Miguel Jayoma, Dr. Inno Tirol, Dr. Nelson Elle, Bayani as representative of Congressman Alexie Besas Tutor, along with the Development Management Officers (DMOs) and various healthcare workers from all over the province of Bohol.
Through this milestone, health support for Boholanos has been further expanded.
The new facility is expected to help more in the fast and efficient delivery of medical services and health programs throughout the province.
Indian doctor, 3 others hurt in crash in Cortes
An Indian doctor and three Filipinos were injured after a motorcycle and a Toyota Hilux collided on the national highway in Barangay De La Paz, Cortes, at 9:25 in the evening on August 25.
The 28-year-old Indian national, who is a businessman and doctor, was driving the Hilux, together with a 23-year-old passenger.
On the motorcycle, the 37-year-old driver and 36-year-old back rider were injured.
According to police, both were heading to Maribojoc when the Hilux tried to make a left turn while the motorcycle also swerved to the left to overtake, which led to the crash.
The injured were brought to the Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Medical Center in Tagbilaran City for treatment.
The investigation is ongoing to determine the exact circumstances and possible liability in the incident.
Councilor Borja urges action against violent online content
Tagbilaran City Councilor Leonides Borja is urging for stronger measures against violent online content to protect children, especially following the string of security threats in schools in Bohol.
In his privilege speech during the regular session of the Sangguniang Panlungsod led by City Vice-Mayor Adam on August 25, Borja expressed concern over the increasing exposure of children to harmful digital content and its possible effect on their behavior.
He cited the shooting in a school in Zamboanga City, as well as the online shooting threats against five schools in Jagna and bomb threats in Clarin, Sagbayan and nearby areas.
According to him, these threats affect not only students and families, but also public safety because police and responders use resources to verify and respond to them.
Borja supported proposed national legislation such as Senate Bill No. 1063, which aims for stricter regulation of video and online games, and Senate Bill No. 2066, which strengthens protection for children on social media through age verification and greater responsibility for tech companies.
He also proposed a resolution to support measures to regulate violent online content and strengthen online safety for minors.
The proposal was referred to the committees on Peace, Order and Public Safety, Education, and Information and Communications Technology for further study.
Police major, 2 teenagers hurt in Danao crash
A 46-year-old police major and two teenage girls were injured after their motorcycles collided on the Danao-Getafe Road, Barangay Poblacion, at 7:25 in the evening on August 25.
The police major sustained a minor injury to his right leg, while the 15-year-old driver and 14-year-old back rider on the other motorcycle suffered head injuries and injuries to other parts of the body.
The two teenagers were brought to the Danao Rural Health Unit and were later transferred to Carmen Hospital for further treatment.
Based on the initial investigation, the two teenagers were not wearing helmets and their motorcycle had no plate number and documents, including OR/CR and driver’s license.
The two motorcycles were impounded at the Danao Police Station while the investigation continues to determine the exact cause of the crash and possible liability.
San Miguel growers harvest 3,591 kilos of fish at NIA dam in Bayongan
The San Miguel Tilapia Growers Association successfully had its third tilapia harvest from their High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) Fish Cage located at the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) Dam in Bayongan, San Miguel town.
In the harvest on August 21, 2026, the association got 980 kilos of tilapia worth ₱103,000.00.
This added to their first harvest of 1,622 kilos (₱171,000.00) and second harvest of 989 kilos (₱105,000.00), bringing the total to 3,591 kilos of tilapia collected with a total value of ₱379,000.00.
All the income collected has been deposited in the association’s bank account for future production expenses and for the development of their organization.
The initiative was also made successful through the support of the Provincial Government of Bohol through the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA), Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), National Irrigation Administration (NIA), and the Local Government of San Miguel.
Bohol measles and rubella vaccination coverage remains low as campaign nears deadline
The vaccination coverage for the ongoing Measles and Rubella (MR) Vaccination Campaign in Bohol remains low, even with only a few days left before the campaign ends on Friday, August 28.
According to Ruth Del Prado of the Department of Health (DOH) Bohol Field Office, only 20.8 percent of the target children in the entire province have been vaccinated.
Based on the latest data, 25,705 children have already received the MR vaccine out of the total target of 123,512 children.
Meanwhile, 97,807 children have not yet been vaccinated as the deadline of the vaccination campaign approaches.
This is still far from the 95-percent target immunization coverage that health authorities aim for to ensure broader protection for children against measles and rubella.
In the data, 2,634 children were not vaccinated due to refusal, while 3,785 were deferred or had their vaccination postponed, which also means that vaccination of children is not forced.
Among the towns in Bohol, Sikatuna recorded the highest vaccination coverage at 48.2 percent, while Buenavista had the lowest coverage at 21.4 percent.
Because of the low vaccination turnout, Del Prado continues to urge parents and guardians to take advantage of the remaining days of the MR vaccination campaign and have their children vaccinated.
Del Prado added that there will be no extension after the deadline tomorrow and those who still want to get vaccinated will depend on whether MR vaccines are still available.
Misinformation or confusing information spread on social media was cited as one of the reasons for the low vaccination turnout, which has caused fear and doubt among some parents about the vaccine.
The DOH emphasized the importance of correct information and cooperation from parents to increase vaccination coverage and protect children against measles and rubella.
Aerox motorcycle catches fire after collision with passenger jeepney in Ubujan
An Aerox motorcycle caught fire after it collided with a passenger jeepney in Purok 5, Barangay Ubujan, Tagbilaran City, across from Globe Satellite.
The jeepney was supposedly headed to Antequera and was full of passengers when the accident happened.
According to the jeepney driver, he was only driving slowly when the motorcycle suddenly came toward him, estimated to be running at 40 to 50 kilometers per hour.
The motorcycle could no longer avoid it and hit the jeepney.
Because of the strong impact of the collision, the motorcycle caught fire.
Police officers and firefighters who responded to the incident quickly put out the fire.
Meanwhile, the Tagbilaran City Emergency Response also arrived to give first aid to the motorcycle driver, who was immediately taken to the hospital for proper treatment.
Authorities are still determining the full cause of the accident and the condition of those involved.
Bohol provincial board pushes stricter implementation of proper fares
The Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Bohol is pushing for stricter monitoring and implementation of approved fares in public transportation following complaints about overcharging and failure to give proper change.
The council adopted and approved Committee Report No. 2026-10 of the Committee on Public Utilities and Franchises, which was presented by Board Member Venzencio Arcamo during the regular session presided over by Vice Gov. Nicanor Besas.
Among the approved recommendations is the passage of a resolution urging the LTFRB, local government units and accredited transport operators to conduct regular monitoring and random inspections to ensure strict compliance with the official fare.
It was also suggested that the fare matrix be clearly displayed inside public utility vehicles and that passengers be given the correct change.
The committee emphasized the need for stronger monitoring and a public information campaign so that commuters will know the correct fare and the proper way to file a complaint.
The LTFRB announced that the minimum fare for traditional public utility vehicles increased from ₱8 before the pandemic to ₱13 at present.
In Tagbilaran City, the tricycle fare is now set at ₱15 under the newly approved city ordinance.
The committee stressed that charging an unapproved fare, failure to display the fare matrix and refusal to give the correct change are violations that can be penalized under current regulations.
Bohol Robotics team receives cash incentives from capitol and Youthlead Philippines
Governor Erico Aris Aumentado gave a ₱25,000 cash incentive to each of the students from JAPeR Memorial High School in the town of Sagbayan — James Carl Nable, Rob Jasper Batausa, and Martin Aero Balaba — in recognition of their outstanding achievement in representing Bohol and the Philippines at the World Robot Olympiad 2024 Open Championship in Brescia, Italy.
The incentives were distributed through the partnership of the Capitol with Youthlead Philippines, which aims to provide additional support in science and technology for young Boholanos, especially those studying in public schools.
The governor said that through programs with DepEd Bohol, they aim for more youth to rise up and showcase their talent at the national and international level.
P2-million asphalt overlay project turned over to Tagbilaran City Central Elementary School
Tagbilaran City Central Elementary School received a P2-million asphalt overlay project aimed at improving and beautifying facilities within the school grounds.
The aid is intended to provide a safer and more comfortable environment for students, teachers, and the entire school personnel through the repair of public pathways and areas inside the campus.
The provincial government turned over the project as part of its continuing support for public schools in Bohol.
Officials assured that assistance for the improvement of school facilities will continue for all Boholanos.
NCCA launches program to preserve Asin Tibuok in Alburquerque
The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) launched its School of Living Traditions (SLT) program in the town of Alburquerque to preserve the traditional salt-making and production of “Asin Tibuok”.
The program aims to continue, preserve, and pass on cultural knowledge and indigenous traditions to the next generation so they will not be lost or forgotten.
The NCCA announced it will help the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Alburquerque create a long-term and systematic development plan for the SLT, including the provision of funding for the initiative.
The provincial government also pledged continued support for the NCCA and LGU Alburquerque to help sustain Asin Tibuok as an important part of local culture and heritage.
Representatives from the National Museum of the Philippines–Bohol, Bohol Center for Culture and Arts Development, Bohol Arts and Cultural Heritage Council, and the Mang-asinay of Alburquerque also attended the gathering to show support for the historic project.
Stronger protection set for Balicasag amid rise in tourists
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and the Provincial Government of Bohol strengthened coordination to protect Balicasag Island as the growing number of tourists raises concerns on safety, environmental protection, and the island’s carrying capacity.
The issue was discussed during a meeting on August 24, where both sides emphasized the need to balance tourism development with the protection of Balicasag’s marine and coastal environment.
The PCG stressed the importance of managing tourism activities within the island’s carrying capacity, to prevent visitor numbers from exceeding levels that could harm the environment and facilities.
The increase in tourists in Balicasag, especially because of its marine attractions, has added to the responsibility of authorities to protect the island’s natural resources.
Other topics discussed included tourist safety, illegal fishing, and illegal settlers in coastal areas of Bohol.
The PCG also received support from the provincial government in the form of drones and body-worn cameras to improve monitoring and maritime law enforcement.
Officials hope that stronger coordination will help promote safer and more responsible tourism in Balicasag, while protecting the island’s marine resources from the impact of more visitors.
Man found dead in school roof in Catigbian due to electrocution
A 32-year-old man was found dead after being electrocuted on the roof above a classroom at Rizal Elementary School in Barangay Rizal, Catigbian, Bohol on Monday morning, August 24.
The victim was identified as “Jerome,” married and a resident of Purok 2, Barangay Rizal.
Around 8:00 AM, police received a call from a public school teacher reporting that a person was lying on the roof above a classroom.
Personnel from the Catigbian Police Station, together with a doctor from the Rural Health Unit, immediately responded and found the body of Patron with signs of decomposition.
The retrieval operation lasted about two and a half hours due to the difficult position of the body.
The police, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, barangay officials and tanods, teachers, and volunteers helped in the operation.
Parts of the metal roof were also removed to safely access and retrieve the body.
Based on the initial investigation, the victim was holding a small nail nipper attached to an electrical wire, which he was believed to have used in an attempt to cut wiring connected to an orange electrical box.
Dr. Eldrin Mascariñas of the Catigbian Rural Health Unit examined the body and declared that the cause of death was electrocution.
According to police, the victim was last seen by his mother on Saturday morning and did not return home after that.
No signs of foul play were found in the initial investigation, and authorities believe the victim died due to exposure to high-voltage electricity.
DPWH-3rd DEO clarifies contractor awarding process in Bohol
District Engineer Magiting Cruz of the Department of Public Works and Highways – Bohol 3rd District Engineering Office (DPWH-Bohol 3rd DEO) denied allegations from a construction company group.
The claim was that contractors with 15% negative slippage were being awarded contracts in the 3rd district of Bohol.
In an interview with a media outlet on August 24, Engr. Cruz assured that no contractor with 15 percent negative slippage has been awarded a contract.
The purpose of this is to protect the quality of government projects.
He said the office is following the proper process under Republic Act 12009 or the New Government Procurement Act.
This law replaced RA 9184.
Projects are awarded to qualified contractors based on law and through bidding.
According to him, contractors with more than 10% negative slippage are being assisted to reduce the slippage.
Out of 89 projects under DPWH – 3rd DEO, only 5 projects have been awarded contracts so far.
The rest have not yet released the SARO or Special Allotment Release Order.
Cruz also clarified that contractors with less than 10% negative slippage will be awarded contracts.
Under DPWH rules, projects cannot be given to contractors with major delays or 15% negative slippage and above.
This is strictly monitored to ensure proper implementation of work.
DPWH Bohol 3rd District Engineer Magiting Cruz stressed that the awarding of government projects to contractors is fair and without bias or favoritism.
If a contractor has an ongoing project with 15% or more negative slippage on the critical path due to their failure or actions, they will be declared post-disqualified.
BPPO warns public vs AI images using police uniforms
The Bohol Police Provincial Office (BPPO) warned the public that creating and sharing AI-generated images of civilians wearing police uniforms or insignia may lead to legal consequences.
According to BPPO Public Information Officer PMaj. Joseph Lopena, under the leadership of Provincial Director PCol. Patricio Degay Jr., the unauthorized use of these images online may violate Article 179 of the Revised Penal Code.
This law covers the Illegal Use of Uniforms or Insignia.
It is further covered by the Cybercrime Prevention Act (RA 10175).
The BPPO clarified that they do not intend to block the use of technology.
However, they reminded everyone to be responsible and to properly label AI content.
This is to avoid misleading the public and to protect the integrity of the police force.
Woman stabbed by neighbor in Dagohoy over dog poisoning suspicion
A woman was taken to the hospital after being stabbed by her neighbor in Purok 7, Barangay La Esperanza, Dagohoy, Bohol on August 23, 2026 at around 7:00 PM.
The victim was identified as “Alyas Kiring,” a resident of the area.
The suspect, “Alyas Meo,” 59 years old, married, and also a neighbor of the victim, was immediately arrested by authorities.
The arrest was made after the incident was reported at around 7:45 PM.
Based on the initial investigation, the suspect was walking past the victim’s house and confronted her.
Their argument then escalated.
In the middle of the altercation, the suspect attacked and stabbed the victim in the back.
According to the assessment, the incident was triggered by the suspect’s suspicion that the victim poisoned his pet dog.
The victim was quickly brought to the nearest hospital for proper treatment.
Meanwhile, the suspect is currently detained at the Dagohoy Police Station.
He will face charges for Frustrated Homicide.
Over ₱423,000 stolen from J&T Express hub in Loon
More than ₱423,000 in cash was stolen after unidentified suspects forced open the main door of a J&T Express delivery hub in Barangay Cogon Norte early Monday, August 24.
The Loon Police Station received a report past 1:30 AM about a possible break-in at the delivery hub.
Upon arrival, police confirmed that the main door of the establishment was forcibly opened.
The company’s safety vault was also found missing.
Hub supervisor Mary Mae Loyola-Dichos said there was ₱423,086 in cash inside the safety vault.
The incident was discovered when a J&T Express delivery driver arrived from the Tagbilaran 380 Hub in Dao, Lanao, Tagbilaran City.
The driver was there to pick up parcels for delivery to different hubs.
The driver was the first to notice the possible break-in and reported it.
This prompted company personnel to check the area and they discovered that the safety vault was gone.
Personnel from the Loon Police Station responded to the scene under the supervision of Police Chief PCapt. Rodney A. Bantolo.
They conducted an initial investigation.
Meanwhile, Bohol Police Provincial Office (BPPO) Public Information Officer PMaj. Joseph Lopena said the investigation and verification are ongoing.
Authorities are working to determine how the suspect or suspects entered the delivery hub and to identify those responsible for the theft.
Police have not yet disclosed if any other items were taken from the delivery hub.
Tagbilaran Council reviews school security and guard firearm policy
The Tagbilaran City Council reviewed the current security in public and private schools in the city.
The review was done during a joint committee meeting on Monday, August 24.
The discussion also covered policies on carrying firearms by security guards inside school campuses.
The meeting was led by the Committee on Education, headed by Councilor Jose Floro Ringca.
The Committee on Peace, Public Order and Safety, headed by Councilor Fausto “Bebot” Budlong, also led the session.
One of the main topics discussed was a proposed resolution.
It urges the review of Department of Education Memorandum Order No. 6, Series of 2026.
The order is titled “Guidelines on Ensuring a Safe and Motivating Learning Environment.”
The focus was especially on the provision about carrying firearms by school security personnel.
Present at the consultation were Tagbilaran City Police Chief PLt. Col. Joey Bicoy.
Also present was a representative of DepEd City Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Wilfreda Bongalos.
Representatives from the Tagbilaran City People’s Council, school officials, city officials, youth representatives, and barangay leaders also attended.
City Councilors Edi Borja, Charles Cabalit, and Gemma Inting also attended the committee meeting.
The council asked for suggestions from different stakeholders.
The goal is to strengthen security in schools while maintaining a safe and positive learning environment for students.
The council is expected to use the recommendations from the committee meeting as a basis for additional measures and policies on school security.
These may be presented during the regular session of the Sangguniang Panlungsod.
Bohol turns over ₱5M aid to quake-hit areas in Mindanao
The Provincial Government of Bohol, led by Governor Aris Aumentado, turned over a total of ₱5 million in financial assistance to areas in Mindanao.
These areas were affected by the strong earthquake in June.
The aid is intended for their rehabilitation and recovery efforts.
According to Bohol Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) Head Anthony Damalerio, the assistance was given to South Cotabato, Sarangani Province, and General Santos City.
Damalerio represented Gov. Aumentado during the turnover of financial aid to the said areas.
South Cotabato Provincial Administrator Atty. Renette Bergado received ₱1.5 million for Gov. Reynaldo S. Tamayo.
With her during the receipt were Chief of Staff Emily Jalandoni Daban and Executive Assistant Hernanie Villanueva.
Another ₱1.5 million was turned over to Sarangani Gov. Roel Pacquiao.
This is to support the province’s rehabilitation and recovery efforts after it was hit by the earthquake in June.
Meanwhile, ₱2 million in financial assistance was given to General Santos City Mayor Lorelie G. Pacquiao.
Damalerio said the assistance shows Bohol’s support and solidarity with communities that are still recovering from the effects of the earthquake.
It was also recalled that South Cotabato, Sarangani, and General Santos City were among the areas that helped Bohol.
This was after Bohol was hit by a magnitude 7.2 earthquake in October 2013.
The financial aid will be used by the recipient local government units.
It will fund their rehabilitation and recovery activities for communities affected by the earthquake.
Carmen farmers worried over drying rice fields due to lack of water
Farmers in the town of Carmen have expressed great concern over the possible loss of their rice crops.
The concern is due to lack of water and the extreme heat.
This is especially felt in Barangay Buenavista and Barangay Katipunan.
Even with the heavy rain on Saturday, August 22, farmers said it was still not enough.
The rain could not provide enough water for the already cracked rice fields.
A farmer from Barangay Buenavista said they started planting in July when it was raining.
However, the water supply quickly dried up because of several weeks of continuous heat.
“Hulyo pa lang kadtong nibunok ang uwan, nagpa tortol nami dayun, unya tanom, pero naabtan pila ka semana ni init og wala nay uwan-uwan,” the farmer said.
He described the condition of his crops as no longer salvageable.
Barangay Katipunan, one of the main rice-producing areas in the town, is also facing the same problem.
Some farmers there were not even able to continue planting.
Despite reports of planned cloudseeding operations, the farmers agreed that it may already be too late.
They said their rice crops have been damaged and dried up by the heat since July.
Tagbilaran vaccination numbers remain low
Only 1,310 children out of the target of 8,020 have been vaccinated in Tagbilaran City.
This is under the ongoing supplemental vaccination program of the Department of Health.
According to data from Dr. Ruben Culpa of the Tagbilaran City Health Office, the program started and ran until August 20.
Barangay Mansasa recorded the highest coverage at 29.5%.
It was followed by Poblacion III with 24.3%.
Poblacion II recorded 23.3%.
Meanwhile, Barangays Cogon, Dao, Cabawan, Dampas, Taloto, Bool, San Isidro, Tiptip, Booy, Ubujan, Poblacion I, and Manga only reached 7.7%.
The vaccination drive will continue until August 28, 2026.
In the city, many parents are still refusing to have their children vaccinated.
Suspect in Tagbilaran LPG store theft arrested
A suspect in the theft at Rufrance LPG Corporation in Barangay Taloto, Tagbilaran City was arrested by members of the Tagbilaran City Police Station.
The arrest was made less than 24 hours after the incident was reported.
The suspect, a resident of Purok 6, Magsaysay Street, Barangay Manga, was apprehended at around 1:56 AM on August 24, 2026.
Recovered from the suspect’s possession were several items and belongings.
These included one white Oppo A16 cellular phone.
Also seized was a blue Yamaha Mio motorcycle with Plate Number 0201-0779171, including its key.
An black helmet was also recovered.
At present, the suspect is temporarily detained at the Tagbilaran City Police Station.
A formal Theft case is now being prepared to be filed against him at the Office of the City Prosecutor.
In compliance with the Data Privacy Act, the police withheld the identity of the suspect.
15-year-old rider in critical condition after Batuan crash
A 15-year-old boy who was riding a motorcycle is in critical condition.
He was hit by another motorcycle in the town of Batuan.
The victim was on his way to visit his grandmother.
He was riding a motorcycle when the accident happened in Barangay Cambacay.
According to the police investigation, the victim reached the area and applied the brakes.
He stopped because the vehicle in front of him made a turn.
However, another motorcycle suddenly hit him from behind.
Due to the strong impact, the minor was thrown onto a vehicle.
He sustained serious injuries to his head and other parts of his body.
The driver of the other motorcycle also sustained bruises.
Both riders were brought to the hospital for medical treatment.
Police investigation into the accident is still ongoing.
Carmen hit by large hailstones
Residents of Carmen were startled when large hailstones hit their roofs.
Joshua Bernales-Ybañez Merto of Barangay Nueva Fuerza, Carmen said this happened during heavy rain.
The incident occurred at 6 PM on August 21.
In his message sent to a media outlet, he shared that Carmen had not experienced rain for several weeks.
PAGASA DOST also issued Thunderstorm Advisory No. 10.
The advisory said moderate to heavy rainshowers with lightning and strong winds were expected.
Affected areas included Dagohoy, Danao, Inabanga, Clarin, Sagbayan, Tubigon, Calape, San Isidro, Antequera, Loon, Maribojoc, Cortes, Corella, Alburquerque, Loay, Tagbilaran City, Baclayon, Dauis, Panglao, Guindulman, Candijay, Alicia, San Miguel, and Ubay.
The weather was expected to last for 1 to 2 hours.
This is what we call a hailstorm or rain of ice.
It happens when heavy rain comes from large cumulonimbus clouds.
In these clouds, water is carried to the upper parts of the sky by strong updrafts.
Farmers in Carmen also expressed happiness over the rain.
They said it will help water their rice fields that had cracked due to weeks of heat.
3 Bohol public schools to represent PH in World Robot Olympiad 2026
Three public schools in Bohol will represent the Philippines in the World Robot Olympiad (WRO) International Final 2026.
The event will be held in San Juan, Puerto Rico from December 8 to 10.
The schools are JAPeR Memorial High School in Sagbayan.
Also representing are San Jose National High School in Talibon and Ubay National Science High School in Ubay.
The international competition is one of the biggest global STEM events this year.
It carries the theme “Robots Meet Culture.”
The theme aims to encourage young innovators to use robotics to interact with, protect, and celebrate art, culture, and tradition.
The Department of Education (DepEd) Bohol has asked for financial assistance.
The request was made to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan Committee on Education, headed by Board Member Nathaniel Binlod.
The assistance is for travel expenses and other needs of the students.
Binlod supported the DepEd’s request.
He also commended the students for qualifying to represent the country.
However, due to limited funds at the Capitol, Binlod said he will file a resolution.
The resolution will ask the DepEd secretary to provide additional funding.
This is for students joining international competitions, especially in robotics and other STEM-related events.
According to Binlod, this is a big opportunity for Bohol students.
It is rare for public schools to reach the level of international competitions.
He added that joining the WRO is not only a chance for students to showcase their knowledge and talent in robotics.
It is also an opportunity to bring pride to Bohol and the Philippines on the international stage.
DOST-PAGASA monitors two storms outside PAR
DOST-PAGASA announced that it is continuously monitoring two storms outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
The update was as of 8 AM on Saturday, August 22.
One of the systems is a Tropical Depression.
It is located 1,080 km east of Eastern Visayas.
The other is Typhoon “Saudel.”
It was recorded 2,395 km east of Extreme Northern Luzon.
Meanwhile, Tropical Depression “Gaenari” has officially exited the agency’s monitoring domain.
It was previously known as Bagyong Neneng.
PAGASA advised the public to remain alert.
The agency also urged everyone to watch for further official updates on the development of these storms.
House, canteen, and classroom burned in Trinidad
A house, a school canteen, and a makeshift classroom were burned in Barangay Hinlayagan Ilaya, Trinidad, Bohol.
The incident happened past 3 PM on Saturday, August 22.
According to BFP Trinidad, the house is owned by Vincent Gadiano and is located next to Hinlayagan Elementary School.
Firefighters responded quickly to the incident.
Because of this, the fire did not spread to the other nearby classrooms.
No one was reported injured in the fire.
Some residents said that possibly an unattended burning wood used for cooking was the cause of the fire.
Authorities are still investigating to determine the exact cause and to assess the amount of damage.
Woman seeks justice after alleged desecration if sister’s grave and coffin in Ubay
A woman is calling on Ubay Mayor Constantino Reyes and the police to take action.
This is after the grave and coffin of her late sister, Ligaya, were reportedly vandalized.
In a Facebook post, Lydia Excell expressed her anger and sadness over what happened.
She described it as a painful and unjust act done to her sister’s burial place.
According to Excell, Ligaya’s tomb or pantheon was damaged.
The coffin was also destroyed.
She said that before her sister was buried, she placed some of Ligaya’s favorite clothes inside the grave.
She also put in jewelry, a bag, and two cellphones.
One of the cellphones, she said, was worth more than P15,000.
Excell said her nephews and nieces discovered the damage on August 21, 2026.
Because of this, she is appealing to Ubay authorities to investigate the incident.
She wants the people responsible to be identified.
Excell also said she hopes that those responsible will be made to answer for what they did.
6 grams of suspected shabu seized, tricycle driver arrested in Tagbilaran buy-bust
A 42-year-old tricycle driver was arrested.
About 6 grams of suspected shabu were seized in a buy-bust operation.
The operation happened early Friday, August 21, in Barangay Dao, Tagbilaran City.
The suspect was identified as alias “Bambilto.”
He is a resident of Purok-6, Capitol Valley, Barangay Dao.
Police said he is a street-level drug personality included in their watchlist.
The operation was conducted at 2:44 AM on August 21 in Purok-3, Barangay Dao.
It was carried out by operatives from the Police Intelligence Unit/Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit (PIU/PDEU) of the Bohol Police Provincial Office (BPPO).
The operation was led by PLT Noubell Padernal.
It was under the direct supervision of PLTCOL Joemar Pomarejos, chief of PIU/PDEU.
Seized from the suspect were 6 grams of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu.
The drugs have a standard drug price of P40,800.00.
Also recovered were the buy-bust money, a cellphone, and a belt bag.
The belt bag was allegedly used to store the illegal drugs.
The seized evidence was submitted to the Bohol Forensics Unit at Camp Francisco Dagohoy for examination and custody.
Charges for violation of Sections 5 and 11, Article II of Republic Act No. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 are being prepared against the suspect.
He is currently detained at the Tagbilaran City Police Station lock-up jail.
Talibon police: no bomb found at municipal hall, Alturas Mall after false bomb threat
The Talibon Municipal Police Station (MPS) clarified that there was no bomb.
This was at the Talibon Municipal Hall and Alturas Mall after a false bomb threat spread on social media. The incident happened on Friday, August 21.
At around 10:20 AM, police received a report about a Facebook post.
The post claimed that there were bombs in the two locations that would supposedly explode at 11 AM.
PMAJ Romar T. Labasbas, chief of Talibon Police, led the security response and search.
He was with security personnel from both locations.
No suspicious bags, boxes, backpacks, packages, or explosives were found.
Because of this, police declared the bomb threat as false.
Talibon MPS urged the public not to share or repost unverified information.
This is to avoid panic and the disruption of public services.
An investigation is still ongoing. Authorities aim to identify who was responsible for spreading the false bomb threat.
The person may face legal consequences.
Bohol police leads PRO-7 EMPO challenge
The Bohol Police Provincial Office (BPPO) topped the monthly EMPO Challenge.
This was held by the Police Regional Office 7 on August 19.
The result showed the unit’s strong readiness and coordination in responding to different incidents.
The simulation exercise was led by PBGen. Arnold Abad, Regional Director of PRO-7.
It tested the competence, preparedness, coordination, and effectiveness of police personnel.
According to PCol. Patricio Degay Jr., BPPO Provincial Director, the win showed the knowledge and readiness of the police in their duties.
He emphasized that the result also proves the continuous training in skills, coordination, and operational preparedness of BPPO.
Degay added that BPPO will continue to strengthen the capacity of its police personnel.
