University President Tirol Calls for Excellence as UB Celebrates Grand Welcome Day
“It is not enough to aspire for excellence. We must live it.” With this call, University of Bohol (UB) President Dr. Victoriano B. Tirol III welcomed students to “Himamat,” the University’s Grand Welcome Day, held last August 20, 2026, at the Victoriano B. Tirol Jr. Sports Complex, as the new school year 2026–2027 officially began.

Speaking before students from different colleges and departments, Dr. Tirol warmly welcomed them to a community where diverse backgrounds, cultures, talents, dreams, and aspirations converge to create something greater than themselves.
“In a world where diversity continues to shape our communities, it is fitting that we celebrate the rich tapestry of cultures, traditions, and experiences that make our University a vibrant and dynamic institution,” Tirol said.
He described this year’s Himamat as an exciting celebration that goes beyond simply welcoming students to campus.
“This year’s Himamat promises to be an exciting experience—one that transcends boundaries, rekindles friendships, builds new connections, and creates memories that will remain with us long after this celebration,” he added.
Excellence Comes to Life
Dr. Tirol emphasized that this year’s Himamat theme, “Where Excellence Comes to Life,” reminds students, faculty and staff of what a university truly stands for.
“Excellence should go beyond awards, grades, rankings, and achievements. Excellence comes to life in the character we build, in the quality of education we provide, in the dedication of our faculty and staff, in the pursuit of knowledge and innovation, in our service to others, and in the positive contribution we make to society,” he stressed.
The University President further explained that excellence is demonstrated through everyday choices and actions.
“Excellence comes to life when students choose integrity over convenience, when teachers inspire learners to reach greater heights, when ideas are transformed into innovations, when knowledge is shared for the benefit of others, and when every member of the UB community chooses to do what is right and to do their best,” Tirol pointed out.
He urged students to make excellence a way of life, reminding them that their journey at the University is measured not only by academic accomplishments but also by the values they develop, the people they inspire, and the difference they make in their communities.
Celebrating 80 Years of Legacy and Resilience
As the University celebrates its 80th anniversary, Dr. Tirol underscored the significance of the milestone, describing it as more than a number on the institution’s calendar.
“Eighty years is more than a number. It represents eight decades of dreams, sacrifices, achievements, challenges, resilience, and service. It is a legacy built by generations of students, educators, administrators, alumni, and friends of the University who have helped make UB what it is today,” he said.
He encouraged the students to become part of this continuing legacy by embracing the University’s values and contributing to its vision for the future.
The celebration of Himamat, he noted, is not only a welcome to new and returning students but also an invitation for every UBian to become an active part of the University’s growing community.
As UB enters its 80th year, Dr. Tirol’s message resonated with the spirit of Himamat: excellence is not merely something to pursue—it is something to embody, practice, and live every day. (Leo Armando Boncales)
BIR Bohol Pays Courtesy Call on UB President Tirol

Personnel of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), Revenue District Office No. 84 (RDO 84) – Bohol, paid a courtesy visit to University of Bohol (UB) President Dr. Victoriano B. Tirol III on August 26, 2026, at the University President’s Office.
During the visit, the BIR team lauded the University for its commitment to producing future Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) and expressed its interest in welcoming qualified UB graduates to join the Bureau.
The BIR personnel also thanked the University for its continued partnership and support of the agency. During the meeting, they further discussed potential recruitment partnerships, job placement opportunities, and career prospects for the University’s graduating students and alumni. They also announced a job opening for the position of Revenue Officer I (Assessment).
