The National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) reports that 200,000 Boholano employees or 42% of Bohol’s workforce lose their jobs due to the pandemic that hit, not just the province, but the entire world.
The data from the NEDA was revealed by Gov. Arthur Yap in a virtual planning workshop facilitated by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) on Monday, Sept. 7, 2020.
The governor shared what the NEDA reported regarding the number of Boholanos who lost their jobs in the same virtual workshop.
Yap quoted the NEDA report that was published in July 2020.
In the same workshop, the governor said employees in the tourism sector are one of the hardest hit by the negative economic effects of the pandemic. The lockdown created travel bans preventing tourists to visit Bohol. The tourism industry relies on travelers’ spending for revenues.
The governor was the guest speaker in the planning workshop of DTI-Bohol. The workshop tackled how value chain strategies can help revive the tourism industry crippled by the negative economic effects of the pandemic, a report from Capitol media said.
The same report said the workshop started on Monday and will end on Thursday, Sept. 10, 2020.
