Bien Unido mayor Rene Borinaga orders a lockdown of Malingin Island following two (2) cases  of community tranmission of coronavirus disease (Covid).

The mayor bared the information in a Facebook post on Friday, August 7, 2020.

The lockdown was ordered following the release of the result of a 62-year-old female resident of Malingin island, Bien Unido who died and subsequently tested positive for Covid. The patient was the first Covid positive result produced by the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) laboratory inside the Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital (GCGMH).

Borinaga said that contact tracing activities start today, Saturday, August 8, 2020. The mayor added that the local government unit (LGU) of Bien Unido is sending relief goods to the people who are affected by the lockdown.

In a separate Facebook post on Friday, Borinaga said that she in initially sent 50 sacks of rice and 21 boxes of sardines.

As this developed, Bohol Inter Agency Task Force (B-IATF) spokesman Cesar Tomas Lopez said that the focus now is on Malingin Island following two (2) community transmission cases.

It can be recalled that on Thursday, August 6, 2020, Gov. Arthur Yap reported that an elderly resident of Purok 2, Malingin Island died while she was on her way to Tagbilaran from Talibon for further medical referral. She was declared dead on arrival at the GCGMH.

Prior to the trip to the GCGMH, the patient was admitted at the Garcia Memorial Provincial Hospital (GMPH) in Talibon on August 5, 2020 due to cough and breathing difficulty. The patient was intubated and tagged as a severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) patient and was brought to Tagbilaran.

Earlier, a woman from Purok 7,  Malingin Island, Bien Unido gave birth to twins on July 27, 2020 at the Don Emilio del Valle Memorial Hospital in Ubay. She had fever on July 28, 2020 and was subjected to a swab test. Her PCR test result came out on August 1, 2020.

Meanwhile, Lopez said that the provincial government via the Provincial Health Office sent a team of medical technologists to help in the swab test activity of the close contacts of the 2 Covid-positive cases.
