With the visit of our tourism secretary Madame Berna Romulo Puyat, I believe that it is “scary” if we force the issue on opening Panglao. Mura pud ug kuyaw gyud kung ipamugos nato nga buksan na gyud ang Panglao ngadto sa mga turista.

We cannot consider Panglao to be a parallel of Boracay. Boracay is an island detached from the mainland. Panglao on the other hand has another town attached to the city capital, Tagbilaran. What I mean here is my looking forward to local tourism. , but please read carefully the editorial of the Bohol Tribune last Sunday.

Meanwhile let’s go into voluntary quarantine as advocated by the Philippine College of Physicians. Pag-ampo na lang ato ani. Yes, we have to pray especially about a government so fragmented as of now..

Personally, each morning when I wake up, I just choose to think opmitimistic about things and events to make my day!

Amidst Covid, and the “lock out” since March, I’m still thinking of what to do with our advocacy of preserving our ancestral houses. Ancestral houses found in our town are living testaments of how we were when Catholicism was brought to our shores in 1595.

Our town of Baclayon is the cradle of Christianity in Bohol. It’s something that each one of the town inhabitants ought to know, much more so that our country is celebrating its 500th year of Christianity. Yes, we are 500 years old in our faith in Christianity!

This is just wishful thinking. Instead of letting children go to school for what they call as the alternative learning system (with teachers confused with what to do with modules and limitations of school supplies), why not bring them (the children) to have a visit to the different landmarks in our town and their importance in local history?

There are many things in our town, tangible and intangible, that still exist and are practiced until today.

Look at our church, our museum, our Baluarte, our cemeteries, and our traditions, aside from the few ancestral houses that stand strong until today but slowly vanishing and disintegrating in the hearts of the young.

I’m happy that Mr. Erwin Lagura is initiating the procession of our icons for holy week procession in our town on their feast day. We already had san Pedro, Mary Magdalene, Mary of Bethany, Martha, Licodemus, Veronica, Lazarus, But, of course, our patron saint the Immaculate Conception is also in our hearts. This is the most opportune time for us to know the roles of these saints play in the life and crucifixion of Jesus Christ. From my Lola Danday’s narrative, e-pakanaug ug e-procession ang Imahen Patronal sa tibuook lungsod kung adunay katalagman. This is what the parish is doing now. Perhaps we can ask the small children to be there on the roadside when the carro passes by.

While listening to justice Carpio on CNN on our claim over the West Philippine seas, I cannot help telling myself, kulang gyud diay and atong kahibaw kabahin sa atong kasaysayan.”

Accordingly, pupils in the elementary were taught the land and sea territories of the Philippines. It so happened that their ownership of West Phil is false. We have to revisit the treaty of Paris and the Washington treaty.

I’m also hoping that the barangay officials will include this in their programs so they can define the kind of tourism we want to have.

I’m happy that people in the Poblacion of Baclayon will still stop and face the church when the Angelus bells ring. Is this still present nowadays? This practice an part of our tradition could be a very good tourism attraction in the province. This, indeed, could be a treasurer worth preserving among our young and old alike.

Treasures are empowering. And these are all around us! This page shows some of the treasures in Bohol: the well (atabay) in Dauis, an old house in Dauis, another old house in Baclayon, the Ermita ruins in Dimiao, and the hanging coffins in Anda.
