The Philippine Councilors League (PCL)-Bohol chapter honored 78 last-termer councilors during the group’s year-end assessment and planning activity on Dec. 9, 2021 at Bohol Tropics Resort in Tagbilaran City.

According to PCL-Bohol president Board Member Jescelo Adiong, the group decided to honor the local legislators who are able to complete their maximum term which is straight nine (9) years. Not every councilor enjoys this opportunity to serve for nine straight years.

This the first time, PCL-Bohol gave honors to the last-termer councilors who are part of the said group, Adiong quipped.

A councilor may run for three consecutive terms with each term spanning three years. After the straight nine (9) years, the councilor is then deemed no longer eligible for re-election, He may opt to run for another elective position or stay away from politics for three years after which he/she is eligible for another round of three terms as councilor.

The year-end assessment is also a time for the councilors to conduct its annual planning session for next year, Adiong added.

The year-end assessment was a way for the councilors to take a look at the group’s achievements in 2021.

Among the group’s achievements this year were the distribution of face shields and face masks to beneficiaries and the conduct of medical missions in three towns in the province.

Moreover, Adiong said that the PCL conducted medical missions in cooperation with the Provincial Government of Bohol in barangay Concepcion in Mabini, barangay Burgos in Talibon and barangay Bonbon in Catigbian.

The PCL-Bohol also passed in 2021, a resolution asking for the  national legislation to allow councilors to continue with their Government Service Insurance System contributions and complete the minimum number of years to be eligible for pension, which is 15 years, even if they are already out of government service.

Meanwhile, a raffle of door prizes happened during the event on Dec. 9, 2021, Adiong bared. The major prizes given during the raffle were donated by Gov. Arthur Yap, Vice Gov. Rene Relampagos, Cong. Kristine Alexie Tutor and Valencia mayor Maria Katrina Lim, Adiong mentioned.
