The Boholano who emerged as among the topnotchers in the physician licensure examinations said he is eager to serve the public especially the rural folks.

Dr. Mark Johnuel Matabilas Duavis from Cangawa, Buenavista town placed 10th in the physicians licensure exams given by the Professional Regulations Commission on Oct. 21, 22, 28 and 29, 2022.

He finished his medical course at the University of Cebu College of Medicine Foundation Inc – Mandaue City.

At the same time, at least 9 other Boholanos emerged as passers and are new physicians. This is a partial list and more names shall be added in succeeding news reports.

The other new Boholano physicians are: Dr. Karl Vincent Jimenez Jay, Dr. Maryper Joy Mendez Malabar, Dr. Gayle Suzette Garces Yu, Dr. Arthur David Tirol Magno, Dr. Felina Justine Adiong; Dr. Stephanie Andreasson, Dr. Dixie Joice Lomaad, Dr. Josefino Quieta, Jr., and Dr. Hazel Christa Uy Dabalos.

According to information, Quieta is a product of the Bohol Medical Scholarship Program.

On the other hand, Dabalos graduated with a degree in Applied Physics for her pre-medical course from the University of the Philippines (UP)-Manila. She finished her medicine proper at the UP College of Medicine.

PASSERS

A report says Duavis shared the same spot in the top 10 with David Marco Abaya Bildan of University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Mem Medical Center, Christine Bernadette Orfano Lo of University of the Philippines – Manila, and Hannah Leian Herrera Tan of the Davao Medical School Foundation.

In the said physicians licensure exams, Justin Adriel Zent Gautier Togonon of the University of the Philippines – Manila is the first placer.

PRC said that 3,826 out of 5,958 or 64.22%, successfully passed the exams. The results were released on Nov. 10, 2022.

SERVICE TO THE PUBLIC

Duavis said in a radio interview in Cebu that he is willing to serve the community by providing health care to rural residents.

The new doctor said that he is ready to become a doctor to the folks in rural areas.

“I am very much willing and I’m open to… helping other people. Akong isukli, [ug] ihatag nako ang unsay gihatag ninyo sa akoa kay di man gyud ni nako makab-ot kon wala ang tabang sa mga katawhan kay pinaagi sa inyong tax mao man nag sustento sa akua for 5 years nako pag-eskwela sa medisina. It is just proper nga isukli nako sa ilaha kon unsa ang gihatag nako,” he said in the radio interview.

Duavis said he can’t still believe that he managed to emerge as one of the topnotchers.

BACKGROUND

Duavis graduated as valedictorian at the Cangawa Elementary School and the Cangawa High School, some reports reveal. He obtained his Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree at the University of Bohol. This served as his pre-medicine course.

Duavis, 31, finished his nursing course through a scholarship program of the Department of Health. It was also the government and the University of Cebu who financed his studies at medicine school.

REWARD

The League of Municipalities of the Philippines-Bohol chapter president and Buenavista mayor Dave Duallo told The Bohol Tribune that Duavis is set to receive a cash incentive coming from the Buenavista local government unit.

Reports also say that the University of Cebu is planning to give the new doctor a brand-new vehicle.
