“We are grateful to our partners both in the public and private sectors for immediately responding to the needs of the families.” This was the statement First District Cong. Edgar Chatto as he saw an outpour of aid to those affected by the Dec. 23, 2022 fire incident in Poblacion 2, Tagbilaran City.

He expressed gratitude to Speaker Martin Romualdez of Leyte and Cong. Yedda Romualdez of Tingog Partylist for their personal assistance given to the families affected by the fire incident.

Chatto was joined by wife Mayor Pureza Veloso-Chatto, daughter Vice Mayor Trisha Chatto, and Tagbilaran City mayor Jane Yap, as he turned over to the fire victims the total of P1 million aid from the Romualdezes.

From the P1 million aid, the distribution was as follows: P12,000 for each family who was a fire victim and P100,000 for Greaymar Manzano, the fire victim whose parents Edgar Manzano and Remedios Baluca including his sibling Myer Manzano perished in the tragic incident.

Tingog Partylist represented by Syd Jude Caya, who is also the chief of staff of the Office of the Presidential Assistant to the Visayas Terence Calatrava, released an additional cash aid of P5,000 to the victims coursed through the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and Chatto’s office.

Likewise, the solon thanked Mike Toledo who facilitated food assistance from One Meralco Foundation and Metro Pacific Investments Foundation through the lawmaker’s office.

Some few hours after the fire, Chatto immediately coordinated with the DSWD for urgent intervention to help the fire victims whose homes at Gallares street in Poblacion 2 were gutted down on Dec. 23, 2022. His chief of staff, Atty. Abeleon Damalerio was at the evacuation center with DSWD team leader Jimmy Crusio to conduct an assessment of the needs of the fire victims.

Chatto, along with wife-Mayor Pureza and daughter-Vice Mayor Trisha, extended aid from their pockets by providing food packs to the affected families.
In the afternoon of Dec. 23, 2022, there was also a distribution of P10,000 cash aid to each family who were victims of the conflagration. These funds were from the office of Senator Bong Go.
