A Question & Answer Session with Dr. Bryan Cepedoza

(Part 4)

The Bohol Tribune (TBT): So, what again, is sleep apnea
Dr. Bryan?
Dr. Bryan Cepedoza (DBC): Oh, sleep apnea! According
to the definition of sleep apnea, it is a condition in which a
person’s breathing stops and restarts many times while one
is asleep. Kabantay mo anang matulog unya maghagok?
Naa gyud dakong chance nga naa na siya’y sleep
apnea. There are 2 classes of sleep apnea. One is central
apnea where the brain itself couldn’t easily give a signal to
the lungs that you already want to breathe. There is another
one called OSA or Obstructive Sleep Apnea. This is
common to those people who have literally big bodies.
Kanang gitawag nato ug mga dagko ug lawas or
tambok, obese. These are the people who don’t have very
good quality of sleep a reason why the following morning,
they feel very sleepy. If this condition will not be cured, this
could lead to a heart problem or even hypertension.

TBT: So it is not true, Doc, that the reason for one’s
snoring – kanang pag hagok – is his being very tired during
the day?
DBC: No, it is not true. (To be continued)
TBT: So, that’s it. Now I know that. There are times I ask a
person: “Nganong naghagok man ka pagkatulog nimo?”
Ang the person would answer: “Kapoy man gud ko kaayo.
I am very tried, and I am very exhausted the result is
maghakog gyud ko.” So it is not true, Dr. Bryan, that the
reason for our snoring while we are asleep is the physical
exhaustion we experience when we are awake?
DBC: No, it is not true.
TBT: Is it true that when one snores, that person has a
heart problem?
DBC: Not really because there are criteria to determine
sleep apnea and, usually, snoring is one of the criteria
especially when a person is a bit chubby. But to make sure
if a person has sleep apnea or none, I would suggest the
same person to be examined for the purpose. If there is
sleep apnea, we have to attach the BiPap. What is BiPap? If
one has sleep apnea, he or she might benefit brom the
bilevel positive airway pressure, It is commonly known as
BiPap or BPap. It is a type of ventilator – a devise that helps
with breathing. During normal breathing, one’s lungs expand
when he/she breathes in. Kung adunay sleep apnea ang
usa ka tawo, atong e-attach ang BiPap inig gabie inig
katog niya arun ma open ang airway niya diri dapita sa

mouth – kanang luyo bitaw sa dila. Anha kasagaran mu
close inig ka tulog kadtong mga taw nga adunay OSA or
Obstructive Sleep Apnea. Mao nay gi open sa BiPap
kung ma diagnose to sila nga adunay sleep apnea. Kay
and BiPap or Cpap man gyud ang tambal sa sleep
apnea.
TBT: Interesting! (To be continued).
