The series of killings and robbery incidents in the province on top of the resurgence
of illegal drug proliferation have caused alarm to Boholanos, and two church leaders
have expressed disgust and worry over the grim situation.
Latest in the list of crime victims was a public school supervisor in Inabanga town
who was ambushed and gunned down in broad daylight.
A day before that incident, a daring robbery in Ubay town resulted in the killing of the
gasoline station’s security guard and injury to another guard.
In the preceding weeks leading to the murder in Inabanga, particularly in the town of
Ubay, the province saw alarming spate of killings and prohibited drug-related arrests
elsewhere in Bohol.
As this develops, two influential leaders of the Catholic church in the province have
issued a joint statement condemning the series of killings and calling local authorities
to act on the alarming trend of crimes.
Bishop Patrick Daniel Parcon of Talibon and Bishop Alberto Uy of Tagbilaran, in a
joint statement, said these incidents are unacceptable and must be condemned.
“We … call on the faithful … to be united in condemning this shameful sin and crime
of killing a person,” read part of the statement.
At least three cases of killings were reported in Ubay in the past two weeks this
month alone.
On April 3, a retired cop was shot dead in the village of Calanggaman. On April 14, a
60-year-old man was gunned down in the village of Los Angeles in the same town.
In the town’s San Pascual village, a gasoline station security guard was shot dead in
a robbery on April 17. Three suspects have already been arrested by local police.
Investigation is also ongoing over the killing of a cockpit referee in Tipolo village by
still unidentified assailants on March 19.
The bishops enjoined the people to pray for an end to the killings and for peace to
reign in their communities.

The suspects fled on their motorcycle towards Barangay Gabi, Ubay, Bohol.
The victims were rushed to Tambalan but Amparado was pronounced dead on

INABANGA

Land dispute may have been the motive behind the recent ambush and killing of a
Department of Education (DepEd) district supervisor in Inabanga, Bohol, according
to local police.

riding a dirty white Suzuki Smash motorcycle last Thursday.
