Bohol Governor Aris Aumentado announced on Friday that the construction of the
SM Tagbilaran Mall, the first SM SuperMall in the province, will start construction in
2025 and will open its doors in 2027.
The mall will be located along Carlos P. Garcia Avenue, near the Bohol Cultural
Center and the Island City Mall, he told a small group of Bohol in a briefing.
The governor said that the mall project will create more jobs and opportunities for the
Boholanos, especially for the construction workers.
He also said that he had requested the SM management to include the National
University, a leading educational institution in the country, in their investment in
Bohol.
“We are very excited and grateful for this development. This will boost our economy
and tourism, as well as provide quality education and services to our people,”
Aumentado said.
The governor also assured the public that the provincial government will start
widening the road to become four lanes this year to make the area around the mall
more comfortable and accessible.
He said that he is coordinating with the Department of Public Works and Highways
(DPWH) and the City Government of Tagbilaran for this project.
The governor made the announcement after meeting with SM SuperMalls Senior
Vice President for Operations Engr. Bien C. Mateo and other SM officials on
Thursday.
Mateo said that they have already secured the fencing permit and completed the
detailed engineering design and structural design of the mall.
“We are very happy to partner with the provincial government of Bohol and bring our
SM brand to this beautiful island. We hope to serve the Boholanos with our quality
products, entertainment, and social responsibility programs,” Mateo said.
The SM Tagbilaran Mall will be the 79th SM SuperMall in the country and the 12th in
Visayas. It will have four floors with a gross floor area of 120,000 square meters.
The shopping giant center will feature various retail shops, restaurants, cinemas, a
supermarket, a department store, a cyberzone, a trade hall, and a chapel.
The mall is expected to be completed by 2027 and will generate about 3,000 direct
and indirect jobs for the locals, SM said.
