In a significant leap towards modernizing educational facilities, the Tagbilaran City
College (TCC) proudly unveiled Phase 1 of its innovative Learning Commons on
October 11, 2023.
The momentous turnover was graced by the presence of Tagbilaran City Mayor Jane
Yap, TCC Founder John Geesnell “Baba” Yap, TCC President Del Mark Cagatin,
TCC faculty members, staff, and students.
The newly inaugurated Learning Commons is home to two distinct spaces: the Smart
Room and the Quiet Room, each designed to redefine the learning experience.
These spaces symbolize a fusion of tradition and technology, paving the way for an
enriched educational environment.
Mayor Jane Yap, a staunch advocate for educational excellence, hailed the opening
of Phase 1 of the TCC Learning Commons as a milestone in the institution’s journey.
“This innovative facility plays a pivotal role in shaping the educational landscape of
the city. Our efforts continue as we seek for more avenues where TCC students can
access the best tools and environments for learning,” Mayor Yap said.
The Smart Room represents the future of education, offering a hybrid learning
platform where some students are physically present in the room, while others can
seamlessly join the class virtually.
It features a cutting-edge Smart Interactive Flat Panel, or Smart Board, that serves
as a catalyst for student collaboration, communication, idea-sharing, and enhanced
learning experiences.
Phase 2 of the TCC Learning Commons will feature a spacious area designed to
encompass reading spaces, study booths and comfortable lounge sitting.

The Learning Commons itself is a testament to the transformation of traditional
libraries.
This shared space boasts of both physical and virtual components, providing
students with an environment conducive to exploring, discovering, and co-creating
knowledge.
Tagbilaran City takes pride in its continued efforts to empower its youth and create
spaces where they can thrive and grow.
With the establishment of the Learning Commons at its own college, the city marks a
new chapter in its pursuit of academic excellence.
