Two police officers from the Loon police station shared their insights and experiences on the challenges and achievements of their work in a radio program.

Master Sgt. Edwin Autida, chief investigator, and Senior Master Sgt. Leonor Molina, non-commissioned officer of the Police Community Relations division, were the guests of DYTR’s Open Forum, a program hosted by Ardy Araneta-Batoy, managing editor of the Bohol Tribune.

Autida stressed the importance of witness cooperation in solving crimes and delivering justice.

He said that one of the difficulties they face as investigators is convincing witnesses to testify, especially if they are afraid of retaliation from the suspects.

“Example, naa’y mahitabo nga krimen sa imong AOR [area of responsibility], and then kinahanglan jud nato nga mo-cooperate nga witness. Kana lisod na nga i-convince ang witness ilabi na ug mahadlok sila,” he said in Cebuano.

He also said that some suspects would deny their involvement in crimes, even if there is strong evidence against them. He added that as investigators, they also attend court hearings to explain the investigation process to the judge.

Autida also said he has never encountered any political intervention or interference in their work, noting he has not heard of any politician who tried to cover up or obstruct the filing of a case against a crime suspect.

Molina, on the other hand, narrated the accomplishments of their division in 2023.

She said they implemented the Generals and Officers Offering Desirable Deeds for a Genuine Community Outreach, Program and Services (GOOD COPS) in July 2023.

Molina bared that this program involved police officers donating money from their own pockets to fund projects for the poor and needy.

She said the police personnel felt happy and fulfilled to help those who are less fortunate.

She said that the money collected was used to buy rice and canned goods, which were distributed to the beneficiaries, adding that they conducted information dissemination campaigns in barangays and schools to raise awareness and educate the public about various issues.

Molina also praised the support and cooperation of the local government unit of Loon to the police. She said that the LGU provided them with resources and assistance to carry out their duties and programs.

The radio program, Open Forum, is aired every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on dyTR 1116 AM. It features interviews and discussions with various personalities and sectors on current events and issues affecting the province of Bohol.
