Psoriasis Vulgaris
The exact etiology of this dermatoses is still unknown and this is inherited as an autosomal dominant trait.
What will be happening here is that, there will be a rapid epidermal turnover time of 7 days as compared to a normal 27 days that is why there is a build up of scales.
Clinically, the affected individual will have: thick plaques of silvery; adherent scales on scalp, elbows, and knees; pits on the nails; and occasional joint pains on the distal interphalangeal joints; there will be pruritus and is troublesome to some affected individual; there are bleeding points and termed as “Auspitz’s sign”, where the scales are scraped off due to thinning of the suprapapillary area of the epidermis
The incidence of Psoriasis is much lower in children than in adults.
Since, this is mainly a cosmetic problem except when joints are involved, the treatment must do no harm to the patient.
The affected individuals are managed by specialists like the dermatologist.
