Tagbilaran City enhances maritime vigilance with speed boat turnover

Tagbilaran City marked the official turnover of its first Surveillance Speed Boat at the K of C Promenade in Barangay Poblacion II on February 26, 2024.

This strategic addition to the city’s water assets is poised to fortify maritime surveillance and monitoring activities within the city’s jurisdiction.

The state-of-the-art speed boat, dedicated to the surveillance and monitoring team of the City Agriculture and Veterinary Office, will play a pivotal role in regulating local waters and combating illegal fishing practices.

Its swift maneuverability is tailored for the efficient apprehension of violators, ensuring the sustainable use of marine resources.

Mayor Jane Yap, a fervent advocate for marine conservation, led the ceremony and delivered an inspirational message emphasizing the importance of this water asset in upholding maritime security.

“This speed boat represents our commitment to safeguarding our coastal resources. It empowers our surveillance team to enforce regulations effectively and contributes to the overall protection of our marine ecosystem,” Mayor Yap stated.

Dr. Genette Mae Egos-Yap, City Agriculture and Veterinary Officer, received the speed boat on behalf of the surveillance and monitoring team.

The ceremony was attended by key figures instrumental in the realization of this initiative, including Chief of Staff John Geesnell “Baba” Yap II; Hon. Eliezer Borja, Chairperson of the SP Committee on Peace, Public Order, and Safety; Hon. Odysseus Glovasa, Chairperson of the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) Committee on Agriculture, Food, Fisheries Resources, Livelihood, and Cooperatives; and City Administrator Cathelyn Torremocha.

This significant addition to Tagbilaran City’s maritime capabilities aligns with its commitment to sustainable environmental practices and underscores the city’s dedication to responsible stewardship of its coastal waters.

Mayor Yap officiates heartfelt “Libreng Kasalan” at city jail

The spirit of love and commitment transcended prison walls as Mayor Jane Yap solemnized the union of four couples at the Tagbilaran City Jail during the continued celebration of Hearts Month with its “Libreng Kasalan sa Tagbilaran” on February 26, 2024.

Being in a relationship with persons deprived of liberty, the couples were given the opportunity to formalize their relationships through a civil wedding ceremony.

Mayor Yap personally officiated the wedding ceremony within the confines of the City Jail.

She shared this message with the celebratora: “Love has the power to transcend any circumstance. Today, we witness the enduring strength of these unions, and it is our honor to play a part in making their dreams of marriage a reality.”

In a testament to the City Government’s commitment to inclusivity and social welfare, each couple received an extensive package of wedding essentials.

The package included free bridal gowns with veils, barongs and slacks for the grooms, wedding rings, professional hair and makeup services, cake, rice cookers, and bags of rice.

This generous gesture aimed to make their special day truly extraordinary, emphasizing the importance of love and companionship.

She was joined by Chief of Staff John Geesnell “Baba” Yap, Vice Mayor Adam Jala, JCINSP Bonifacio Plaza Jr. and Cabawan Barangay Captain Sergio Bangalao.

Their presence added a touch of communal support, emphasizing that love knows no bounds and that every individual, regardless of circumstances, deserves the opportunity to celebrate the joy of marriage.
