UB Strengthens Migrant Protection Advocacy Through DMW Collaboration

Reaffirming its commitment to promoting safe, orderly, and informed migration among its graduates and aspiring overseas workers, the University of Bohol, in partnership with the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), conducted the Anti-Illegal Recruitment and Trafficking in Persons (AIRTIP) and Pre-Employment Orientation Seminar (PEOS) on May 19, 2026, at the UB Gymnasium.

The seminar gathered more than one thousand graduating students and prospective overseas workers, equipping them with vital knowledge on legal overseas employment procedures, migrant workers’ rights, and the dangers of illegal recruitment and human trafficking.
Present during the activity were University of Bohol President Dr. Victoriano B. Tirol III; DMW Region VII Regional Director Jhoaden G. Lucero; and Assistant Regional Director Atty. Rex A. Tadena. The DMW key officials underscored the importance of
vigilance, preparedness, and responsible migration in safeguarding the welfare of Filipino workers abroad.

The activity was facilitated by the Student Personnel Services Office under the leadership of Dr. Lemuel O. Belarmino, SPS Dean, as part of the university’s continuing advocacy to empower students through awareness, education, and proactive protection against illegal recruitment schemes and human trafficking. UBohol Co-Hosts International Conference on Interdisciplinary Research
Reaffirming its commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and global research engagement, the University of Bohol forged a co-partnership with the International Association of Scholarly Publishers, Editors, and Reviewers, Incorporated (IASPER), in hosting the 7th International Virtual Conference on Interdisciplinary Research in Higher Education (IVCIRHE), on May 14–16, 2026, via Zoom Video Teleconferencing.

In a formal Memorandum of Agreement entered between UB President Dr. Victoriano B. Tirol III and Dr. Genaro V. Japos, Chairman of the IASPER Board, the two institutions aimed at promoting academic integrity and ethical standards in research and publication; disseminating research findings for greater impact and utilization; fostering interdisciplinary collaboration among researchers and institutions; and recognizing and celebrating meritorious contributions of researchers and institutions

Dr. Leah Wilfreda E. Pilongo, Dean of the Graduate School and the University Research Center, noted that the conference served as a dynamic international platform where professionals, researchers, students, and practitioners presented ground-breaking studies and transformative project experiences across diverse disciplines while fostering scholarly collaboration, research innovation, and knowledge production among participating institutions worldwide.
As of March 15, 2026, UB still holds the No. 1 spot in the province of Bohol in Edurank. It is also ranked 7,624 out of the 14,131 universities and colleges worldwide, and 2, 958 out of 5,830 in Asia. Among the 220 institutions in the country, UB placed 65.
UB Athletes Deliver Strong Medal Finish in 2026 National PRISAA, Lift CV to Overall Crown
Demonstrating exceptional athletic excellence and unwavering determination, the University of Bohol athletic team delivered a remarkable performance at the National PRISAA 2026, hauling an impressive medal tally of 31 gold, 22 silver, and 14 bronze medals. The outstanding achievement significantly strengthened the Central Visayas delegation’s campaign, ultimately leading the region to clinch the coveted overall championship title during the national meet held from May 8 to 15, 2026, in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental.

The bulk of the university’s medal haul came from its formidable swimming team, which delivered an outstanding performance with 19 gold, 7 silver, and 5 bronze medals. Spearheading the campaign was rising swimming sensation Luis Jurado, who captured seven gold medals and earned the distinction as Most Outstanding Swimmer. Vittorio Jonnil Gallito followed with an impressive four gold medals, while Quiel Noreen Pilayre contributed three gold and three silver medals. Bry Mackenzie added two gold, two silver, and one bronze medal, while Seanne Pattrick Pagay secured two gold and one bronze medal. Adding to the team’s remarkable achievement, coaches Michaelangelo Opalla and Mary Ann Madlos were recognized as Best Coach in the Junior Boys and Girls Divisions, respectively. The swimming team’s stellar performances further affirmed the University of Bohol’s reputation as a powerhouse in competitive swimming.

Further boosting the university’s medal tally were the UB Beach Volleyball Women’s Team and Beach Volleyball Girls’ Team, both of which emerged as national champions in their respective categories. This achievement was further underscored by the recognition of Dr. Lemuel Belarmino, head coach of the UB volleyball team, who was named Best Coach in Beach Volleyball. Equally commendable was the outstanding performance of the university’s weightlifting team, whose four athletes collectively secured six gold and four silver medals.
The University of Bohol athletic delegation was headed by Dr. Lemuel O. Belarmino, Dean of Student Personnel Services, together with Mr. Asterio C. Pocot, Athletics Affairs Coordinator.
