Former governor Arthur Yap pays tribute to the late, former Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe as the latter was killed on July 8, 2022.
He was 67.
Yap posted on Facebook his condolences to the nation of Japan who lost a great statesman and political leader.
“My heartfelt sympathies to the Japanese nation on the senseless death of a great Statesman, Former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe,” Yap said in his Facebook post.
“I will always remember him for helping Filipino farmers and fisherfolk when he supported exports of Philippine fruits, vegetables and seafoods to Japan. Bohol was also greatly benefitted by his Administration through Japanese ODA [Overseas Development Assistance]
through JICA [Japan International Cooperation Agency] bringing us the Panglao International Airport, the new Loay Bridge and various other road projects. We thank you Prime Minister and will always remember you,” he added in his post.
Yap was a former Agriculture Secretary from 2004-2010 during the Arroyo administration, a three-term solon of the 3rd district of Bohol and the immediate past governor of Bohol.
ABE’S DEATH
Abe died after having been shot by a gunman during the former’s speech in Nara. The doctors who were treating the former Prime Minister of Japan confirmed the death of the statesman, according to reports.
Japanese police said the suspected gunman is a 41-year-old unemployed man who allegedly admitted to the shooting.
According to police, the suspect said he holds hatred toward a certain group, which he thought Abe was linked to.
He used a homemade gun as authorities seized some improvised weapons found in the suspect’s apartment, the same reports add.
