Tagbilaran City ranked 5th place in the whole Philippines for its efficient collection of locally-sourced revenues for fiscal year 2020. The city is ranked number 1 in the entire Central Visayas based on the citation by the Bureau of Local Government Finance (BLGF).

Tagbilaran City garnered a 132.80% collection efficiency rating, according to reports by the City Media Bureau.

City Mayor John Geesnell Yap II congratulated the City Treasurer’s Office (CTO) for the recognition.

“Tagbilaran City has been consistently exceeding its collection targets ever since I assumed office. The hardwork and dedication of the City Treasurer’s Office are truly commendable. With the limited face-to-face transactions during this pandemic, they have initiated creative methods to facilitate transactions thru various online platforms. No health crises stalled their mission of generating income for Tagbilaran City,” Mayor Yap said.

The said achievement was the result of all the measures which the CTO implemented at the onset and the pandemic.

The City Government used technology in improving tax collection with the e-permitting system in June 2020.

The Information Technology Department came up with a contactless platform for the application of business permits. A link was placed in the City Government website where clients can use in order to renew their business permits.

This way, they don’t need to go to City Hall to process their business permits.

Payments for water, business, and real property taxes were also accepted through various online channels such as PayMaya and GCash.

Furthermore, the City Government’s efforts in establishing confidence among the business owners in Tagbilaran through clear implementation of health requirements under the new normal, extending the deadline of tax payments, and intensified vaccination drive, all contributed to the City Government’s sound fiscal management and efficient revenue collection.

In fact, these efforts were also given a special citation by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) during its 47th Philippine Business Conference in Manila back in November 2021.
